The Indians seemed to have a lot of bad luck ... McDowell becomes an alcoholic, Tony Horton sidelined by mental problems, Max Alvis's career sidetracked by spinal meningitis, Fosse's career is ruined by Pete Rose, ownership never had any money ... that decade was a tough time to be an Indians fan.

Yeah but that was much later. Still tragic.

Traded Nettles and Chambliss for next to nothing.

As for ownership, they could have had Steinbrenner. It’s a tantalizing what if.

When the owner who makes frozen lasagna decides the the Bowling Green State university alumni association president is a better fit to own your team rather than a shipping magnate, who is to question it?

Part of the reason why the Yankees went to so many World Series after WW2 is because the other American League teams had morons for ownership. The Browns should have gone ahead and moved to Los Angeles, Griffith was a tightwad, Briggs and Yawkey were racists, and Arnold Johnson ran the A's as a Yankees farm team. Only the Indians and White Sox seemed to care.
