another friend of mine has a place on Annamarie island in Sarasota. It’s on the second floor but with the surge possibilities, that’s maybe not 100% safe. Sarasota is a lovely area.

Best of luck to all in the area. I checked in on friends in the path and who have family in the path. All have thankfully gotten out of Dodge.

Hopefully it doesn't turn out to be as bad as projected.

I am not making light of this in any way, but at some point a TV reporter is going to get seriously hurt or die doing some of the spots they do in major weather events. I don't see what real value they add to put yourself in danger the way they do.

Exactly my point about the Weather Network in Canada sending people there for what appears to be no legitimate reason. These events are serious business, not an excuse for weather tourists and thrill seekers to show everyone how windy and wet it is and then jump on a plane home leaving the people in the area to literally pick up the pieces.

Looks like half of Central Florida is under a tornado warning.

    Damn.

My Grandparents were snowbirds who had a park model (I think that's what it was called) in Sarasota. I spent pretty much every Christmas Break as a child there and loved it. Great area, and I hope it and everyone else affected by this pulls through all right.

I think our first tornado warning was around 10:30 this morning. So far all the cells have been west and north of me, although the one they just announced is closer than I’d like. There are so many warnings in the surrounding counties the local weather guy questioned why they aren’t using just one big box to mark them on the map. Tornado watch remains in effect until 9 pm.

I’m not expecting crazy bad winds but knowing tornados were likely, paranoia the track would push more south and the piles of construction debris and other crap from the abandoned home renovation project across the street that could end up flying into my house, I did close up my hurricane shutters. I have one impact window at the front of the house and an impact slider facing the back so I’m not totally in the dark and can watch what’s going on outside both north and south. Trickiest thing will be timing getting the dogs out between gusts and rain, especially the puppy.

Saw footage of a funnel in Broward County this morning. Some of these could be EF-3's, which normally never happen with a hurricane.

    Stay safe, @Amy
Tornado spotted in Loxahatchee. Guy mentioned "little airport" in the area. I used to have connections to the Aero Club in Wellington, so I hope it's away from you.
