Costas: “It’s a line drive to center field …” as Volpe makes a diving catch of a looper behind second base.

    Yeesh.

I'm guessing from the press box the angle screwed him there.

One of the big problems with why the stat geeks don't have a good empirical fielding metric is that so much of the data is either proprietary or is determined by eyeball observations like that where the recorder's position heavily influences how hard they thing a ball was hit and where it is going.

I have wondered what the points of demarcation are for balls said to be “pulled,” hit “straight away” and hit to the “opposite” field.

For those scoring at home, Ohtani is out 5- Ump-5-2.

The ball from Judge was worse.
He was in full throat and it didn’t get to the track.

Karma is a bitch. If these kid Padres had acted as if they had won anything before, instead of flipping bats, I'd have continued pulling for them.
Instead, the Dodgers are kicking their arrogant asses.

MLB just might get its preferred Yankees-Dodgers World Series after all.

Imagine if the Tampa Bay Rays were in the postseason this year. If the storm is close to what it's supposed to be, they'd be playing in Miami or another neutral site.

Shit, the Bucs aren't even scheduled to be home this weekend.

    And also National Guardsmen.

Saw on TV that what looks like the whole roof is gone.
