1. In a close election, it doesn't have to change many votes.
2. One candidate was forced to withdraw because of well-founded doubts he could serve another term. For another candidate, almost as old and showing signs of mental and physical decline, not to release his records is just wrong. It's an outrage. The fact that most Trump voters wouldn't care if he was already dead doesn't change that.

At the time Biden stepped aside there was no time to do the primaries over and meet states’ deadlines to get on the ballot in November.

So what, exactly, would have been the right thing to do? Stay with Biden? Forfeit and concede the race to Trump?
