I realize the committee will choose who they choose, but I really hope they don't ding a team for losing a conference title game, You make the conference championship in the P4, you should be in. Winner gets the first round bye.

I didn't see this yesterday. Maybe it's not quite a Woody Hayes moment, but Kirby Smart should at least be fined and/or suspended for it, right?
Kirby's explanation was that he was going to talk to his defensive coordinator and that pesky Mississippi State quarterback just ran in front of him.

Kirby Smart “had his visor come off?” As if the hat had a mind of its own and that was the noteworthy development there. I presume that’s an SEC Network broadcast.

Kirby seems like a whiny bitch.

Thank God the linesman didn’t risk straining his rotator cuff or anything by throwing a penalty flag.

Best player on defense. Best player on offense.

I saw this at the New Mexico-Air Force game last night. Fucking brilliant, the loudest the crowd was all night, participating in this madness. I also saw it at Central Michigan last season.

PS: UNM plays at "University Stadium." How old-school is that? Three 50-yardline seats and parking for less than $100 combined. NMSU on Tuesday night, UTEP on Wednesday. In Cruces tonight and it's still 75 and calm at 8:40. Unbelievably nice.

Not sure about that. Not in the era of super-conferences.

Any notion of round-robin conference slates are not only long gone, but conferences are so big that you nearly don't see as many teams as you do.

In the Big Ten, Ohio State has an absolute monster of a schedule. Already played and beat Iowa, already played and lost at Oregon, they host Nebraska, they play at Penn State, they host Indiana and Michigan.

Indiana, in the meantime, has been getting fat on UCLA, Maryland and Northwestern. It gets tougher, but not too much tougher. Nebraska and Washington at home, Michigan State away, Michigan at home, at Ohio State, and Purdue at home.

Unless Indiana wins head-to-head at Ohio State to make it easy on the committee, a two-loss Ohio State is quite a bit better than a potential one-loss Indiana. But it's definitely possible Indiana and Oregon/Penn State could meet in the Big Ten championship game.

There's going to be similar anomalies in other conferences in terms of who sneaks their way into the conference championship games. It's kinda fun and random and it's kind of a mess too. I like the chaos aspect of it. I don't mind giving an auto bid to a conference championship game, partly for the bid-stealing chaos it could create, but taking both doesn't work with the unbalanced schedules.

If we're in the world of hypotheticals, there's one where Oregon, Penn State and Indiana all finish undefeated in the Big 10 and Ohio State has at least three losses.

I must admit at least a partial error, here.

The task force was led by the Marine Corps, but the bulk of the force in Grenada was led by the 75th Ranger Regiment and the 82D Airborne Division.

I shall take my punishment this weekend in …. let’s say, two Tennessee touchdowns.
