Mendoza has been great, so I get the move. But it definitely backfired in the worst possible way. Manaea was on regular rest and has been great for months other than a blip against the Brewers.

Lots more pressure on Manaea tomorrow to be great again.

I’d imagine starting Peterson ahead of Senga in a potential Game 5 is a real possibility.

And as exhilarating as the games have been, Mets can’t constantly play from behind and consistently win at this point.

Because of the condensed schedule now, if you are going to use Senga, you had to use him in Game 1 or 2 becasuse if he starts three or four, you've put yourself in a bind with your bullpen. Game 1 you get him out of the way and see what he has as a viable candidate to make another start (which he obviously now is not) and your bullpen doesn't get wrecked as the schedule hits three games in three days.

I'm bicoastal these days and in LA right now to care for my dad.

We have nothing in common except the Dodgers.

The '55 Dodgers meant everything to him and Koufax was his favorite.

The '85 Dodgers meant everything to me and Jack Clark ripped my heart out.

We were each 14 during those seasons.

On Friday night he watched the divisional clincher in his room, me in the living room.

After the final out I could hear him clapping.

In a shared moment last night he stopped making a pastrami sandwich and ducked around the wall to watch Muncy's 2-run single.

Earlier we were about to go thru the car wash and had this little chat as I turned up the radio:

    "Do you like this song?"

    "Who is it?"

"Nirvana. They were The Beatles of the '90s."

    "Oh, I've heard of them."

I don't know how Gannett's TS reporter is keeping a job if he keeps getting scooped.

I was in the dusty part of town eating excellent pupusas at an El Salvadorean joint when the Mets were going up 6-0 and am glad because I have no doubt my dad was knee-deep in a tantrum and cussing up a storm.

    Just got home.

"They're getting slaughtered. That Ohtani has already struck out 3 times."

"Guess those 54 homers and 59 stolen bases weren't quite good enough," I said.

    < crickets >

    In some ways he's ...

Momentum is only as good as the next day's starting pitcher. -- Many managers, perhaps first stated by Earl Weaver

Banner headline on ESPN.com right now. Analysis: Mets in Control in Game Two Against Dodgers. Analysis? It's 6-1 in the bottom of the sixth! They really had to dig deep into the sabermetric tool bag to do that "analysis."

The actual text was "Mets Hold Control." whatever that means.
