Yeah. Not a lot of meat in the Iowa State sandwich.

That also goes for Clemson. Why the fuck are they No. 11 in the poll?

    1) Name brand.
    2) They've been killing people.
    3) Most voters have little time to devote to nuanced voting distinctions.

On your final point, that really is a problem. Most college football writers are very focused on their own beat on Saturday. Kinda dumb the AP releases the poll on Sunday. Not much time to research the rest of the country. No reason they can't release it on a Monday.

Another issue: If you drop Clemson or ISU, who goes in their place? Another Big 10 or SEC team? Have fun with those indignant howls.

That was my contention and I was a voter for a year or two.

One of the differences between the AP football and hoops polls is that football doesn’t have 10 conferences from which you can pick two teams per week to fill out your poll when you grow weary of listing mediocre power conference members.

We'll find out about Clemson soon enough. Tigers host Louisville this week then go to Blacksburg and Pittsburgh the next two. Not an easy stretch.

As anyone who's had the misfortune to cover one knows, a Presidential or presidential candidate's visit to a major sports event is an enormous pain in the ass to all involved except of course the politician him/herself.

Could his plane land at the airport there? I thought they had issues and couldn't handle big planes.

Or would he have to land elsewhere and drive in?
