I think the "media" award is enough for media types. And yet, Cosell never won that. Go figure.

So who are the ACTIVE players who are locks for the HOF.

Henry, Rodgers, TJ Watt, Kelce, Mahomes, Trent Williams, Russel Wilson....I look at the list of active Pro Bowl leaders and I'm guessing they are picking some guys for their dodge ball skills now given how many have more than the half-dozen PBs that put you in the Canton conversation.

Fred Warner. Tyreek Hill. Zack Martin (seven-time first-team All-Pro). Tyreek Hill. Bobby Wagner. Justin Tucker.

Not locks but likely or well on their way: Justin Jefferson, T.J. Watt, George Kittle, Davante Adams, Jamarr Chase, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Christian McCaffrey, Chris Jones, Von Miller.

I'm sure there are others, but that's off the top of my head.

The nine Coaching semifinalists. Next cut is the one finalist

    Bill Arnsparger
    Tom Coughlin
    Mike Holmgren
    Chuck Knox
    Dan Reeves
    Marty Schottenheimer
    George Seifert
    Mike Shanahan
    Clark Shaughnessy

    Those cut were pretty obvious:
    Jeff Fisher
    Alex Gibbs
    Richie Petitbon

Love for it to be Holmgren, but Shanahan probably just edges him in that group with Super Bowl XXXII as the tiebreaker. (Grrr.)

Shanahan and Coughlin should get it before Holmgren.

Trent Williams has got to be a lock among active players.

I think it's pretty obvious one of these three is the finalists. Ultimately as long as it is Shanahan or Coughlin is fine. They both deserve to get in so as long as it's one now and the other in the next year or three, since Belichick will be the choice as soon as next year or everyone believes he's not going to take a job.

The nod should absolutely go to Coughlin, if only for beating the Patriots twice and for his work during the Jacksonville start-up.
