I’m shocked and disappointed that we are here again in a seeming replay of 8 years ago (and I’ll own that I was apparently OD’ing on hopium based on what proved to be false signs). I’m sure there will be books to be written on how this all happened, but I’ve lost interest in the “why”. The basic fact seems to be, this is apparently who we are as a people and electorate, and enough of us have no problem with a sundowning felon with autocratic plans to occupy the highest office in the land. And that pretty much kills the last ember of faith I had in America and Americans, after the serious wounding in 2016. At least then the diagnosis was ignorance and not malice…this time there can be no doubt.

For now my focus will have to turn to how to help see my wife and teenage boys, all Black, through this next dire four years. And to see if we tough it out here or start looking into leaving this place which has once again proven it falls far short of being the shining city on the hill it has always said it is.

A presidential campaign is a marathon and Harris had three months. I'd like to think more time would have helped. But I'm also increasingly baffled by the Democratic Party in general.

Or maybe it's just time to wake up to what this country is. I can't look my daughters in the eye and promise them they'll see a female president one day.

It all started with Obama telling him he would never be President….

More time would have just meant more time to dig up stuff, more time for sound gaffes.

Democrats have not nominated a candidate its people were genuinely EXCITED about, a candidate they WANTED to hear speak, in 12 years. For a dozen years it's been "the more America sees of him/her, the less popular he/she is." So appearances have to be handled very carefully. That sends a message.

I would have loved for Obama to go on Hannity or a true town hall (with challenging questions) and more than hold his own. Can we say the same about Clinton? Biden? Harris?

And maybe, just maybe, the people would take Jan. 6 more seriously if we wouldn't freaking celebrate (if not outright support!) other countries that try to overthrow their governments. "VOTE him out" should be the standard to any uprising in a country that has legitimate elections.

As noted previously, I don’t own a TV. All of the advertising I see is online. And what I saw from the Democrats was … send money. Over and over again, relentlessly. Maybe back off the fundraising and say a little more about your plans for governing?

I know votes still have to come in, but she currently has 15 million fewer votes than Biden did in 2020. Hell, Trump still needs 3 million to catch his number from that election.

I'm just numb, but increasingly angry at Biden, whose selfishness robbed us of a chance to have a true Democratic primary. I don't think there's a chance Harris is the nominee if that happens.

And yes, to FNF's point above. I was receiving emails begging me for money up until 6 p.m. yesterday. It was unseemly. What is my $47 going to do at that point?

Y'all have fun debating this stuff. I'm going to check out of this thread. See you in the sports threads.

Mark Whicker had a good piece in his Substack this morning about the parallels between Trump and Vince McMahon and how being a scumbag is just playing a role and this country needs constant stimulation over all else. Just entertain, baby.

But McMahon had to be proud of the way Trump made sure the light was always shining on him. One garbageman’s vest was worth 10 times the attention of any economic policy statement Kamala Harris could summon. Trump only shared the stage once, at his debate with Harris, and that was such a nightmare that he risked looking weak by steadfastly refusing a rematch. No, far better to stick to dumb-as-a-rock and other schoolyard barbs, and Hannibal Lecter and Arnold Palmer’s 15th club and immigrants cutting your throat in your kitchen. Let everyone else cluck-cluck. Trump instinctively knew that real power lies in the sound bites, and nobody will dwell, indignantly, on what you said Thursday if you say something at least as outrageous on Friday.

Totally called it a month ago

It comes down to America always finds excuses to not do the right thing. The media is too chickenshit to actually tell a story. Harris, like many minorities and women, was held to a double standard. Trump is a demented fascist but Harris has to give specifics about policy. It’s a truly sad day.

And a giant mistake finger to the she’s going to win big posts.

At this point, I’m less worried about a woman president than I am having my daughter persecuted or even prosecuted for being gay or speaking out or just trying to be.

He's not the only one. RBG's selfishness is why we don't have a less onerous 5-4 SCOTUS. Dianne Feinstein's hanging on didn't do any direct damage, but it sends the message that "we do not care if these people even have a functioning brain cell (as long as they hold a D seat)."
