Gil should be AL ROY. I love the Milkman, but Gil won 14 games, several of which came when he effectively occupied Cole's spot in the rotation in the first six weeks of the season.

Hinch's team came out of nowhere -- especially after management dealt off a bunch of talent at the deadline -- and made the playoffs. The Cleveland guy also did a great job, but he could not get my Vogt.

As someone who never clutched a single pearl about the Houston "cheating" scandal, I think Hinch is well on his way to establishing himself as one of the game's great managers.

I have faith he'll figure out a way to say it out loud.

The most remarkable thing about Rivera was the unflinching consistency of the greatness. He doesn't have one of the all-time great reliever seasons--his lowest ERA was "just" 1.38--and he never had the iconic season that left voters no other choice but to name him the Cy Young Award winner (finished second once and third three times, including as the set-up man extraordinaire in 1996). But he had an ERA north of 3.00 just once. Eck was great, but he was an average closer for as long as he was a great one. Of course, his final five seasons as a closer were his age-38 through age-42 seasons. Then again, Rivera's final six seasons as a closer (counting the season in which he blew out his knee) were his age-38 through age-43 seasons. We're never going to see anyone like that ever again.

RIP Al Al Ferrara, former Dodger and Padre outfielder during my youth.

One of Koufax's better friends on the team. He enjoyed hanging with guys on the fringes, just as he was for the early part of his career when someone in the organization did not like him and prevented him from pitching as much as he should have, given his sometimes-brilliant performances. Koufax's best friend on the team was infielder Dick Tracewski.

Has Nashville figured out its own stadium situation? They've been at this so long that their name should be the Stalking Horses.
