You could say the same about Penn State. Their best win is against, Wisconsin? West Virginia in week 1?

Miami, Notre Dame, BYU and SMU have also piled up a lot of wins against a lot of meh.

Miami's best win is Louisville. Same with SMU.
Notre Dame's is Texas A&M. (Followed by a home loss against Northern Illinois.)
    BYU beat SMU.

To quote "War Games," it appears the only way to win is not to play (very many other good teams).

Because of the new conferences with many more members than there football games in a season, there will be scheduling vagaries as cited by maumann in the post above every year. But they will switch from year to year, too. The SEC is crammed with two-loss teams of considerable merit because in 2024, it had many head-to-head games between its best/better teams. Meanwhile the Big 10 to the 10th power has seen Indiana, who I believe is a good team, go undefeated because it hasn't played a conference power yet (That ends Saturday). Ohio State had to play Oregon on the road. That's probably why they lost. Next year, they may have more creampuffs in their diet, with the chewier meals played in Columbus.

The Longhorns have beaten the following bowl eligible teams:

    Colorado State
    Vanderbilt

The Longhorns have beaten the following sub .500 teams:

    Mississippi State

The remaining six opponents beaten to date are 5-5.

BYU pissed that game away something fierce. Some really unfathomable mistakes.

Now that's an awesome weird stat.

The 2025 SEC schedules are the same as 2024, just flip home and away. So you can expect a lot of this parity again next year.

And after that a lot of cherished rivalries start skipping some years unless they add a ninth conference game. Because why should what fans want get in the way of the conference and the TV network having a pissing match over money?

When the committee considers the W-L records of a candidate’s opponents, does it exclude those games against the team under consideration? In other words, an opponent finishes 6-6, but one of the games is a loss to a playoff candidate. So that opponent is 6-5 in all other games. Isn’t 6-5 the relevant record?

Big 12 is especially pronounced here. Contenders haven’t met. That’s why the top teams are the top teams, I guess.
