The clearest explanation I have seen is that if Bama wins out and Mizzou wins at least one more, Bama gets the tiebreaker to play opposite the Horns-Aggie winner. If Mizzou goes 0-for-2, then Georgia gets the tiebreaker. And if the Texas schools do some weird shit, God help us all figuring it out.

That's probably as clearly as it can be stated.
At least at this moment, there's a 73% chance that the tiebreaker policies will have to break ties of four, five or even six teams to determine who goes to Atlanta.

I want all the tiebreakers in play. Hell, I want to see Army to beat Notre Dame, both because that would be awesome and because a two loss Notre Dame would cause all the various two loss teams to descend on the committee with clubs.

Two-loss Notre Dame isn't getting in, not when those two losses are to Northern Illinois and Army.

Shit, a one-loss Notre Dame shouldn't get in. Who have they beaten this year? Who did they lose to? Case closed.

(I hate ND as only someone raised nominally Catholic can.)

College football has been around for over 150 years and we're still doing this like a beauty pageant.

I don't care for the Irish either, but the win at Texas A&M will carry weight.

There are many teams who have two big wins. Georgia has three. There are a ton of teams with one good win to point to, I'm not sure how much weight it will pull.

I think the only answer here is 24-team playoff.

And if they beat Army Saturday it has to be considered as a big win, or at least a modestly big one, and I'm not pro ND.

We haven't even had the first 12-team playoff but it seems very obvious they are going to go to 16 as soon as possible

In two years, when the new TV contract kicks in. Bump up the start of the season one week so conference championship games are on Thanksgiving weekend. First round the second weekend of December to avoid the NFL.

Top five conference champions get in but don't get bumped up in seedings like Miami and Boise State currently are since there are no byes. Being top five conference title winner only guarantees you a berth in the playoffs

So your first round would look like this (* denotes conference champion):

    First round
    16. Colorado at 1. Oregon*
    15. Texas A&M at 2. Ohio State
    14. BYU* at 3. Texas*
    13. SMU at 4. Penn State
    12. Boise State* at 5. Indiana
    11. Tennessee at 6. Notre Dame
    10. Georgia at 7. Alabama
    9. Ole Miss at 8. Miami*

    Quarterfinals
    Rose: Ole Miss-Miami vs. Oregon-Colorado
Sugar: Georgia-Alabama vs. Texas A&M-Ohio State
    Fiesta: Tennessee-Notre Dame vs. BYU-Texas
Peach: Boise State-Indiana vs. SMU-Penn State

    Semifinals
    Cotton: Rose vs. Peach
    Orange: Sugar vs. Fiesta

Rotate around. Rose will likely always stay as a quarterfinal because of January 1 and the San Gabriels and sunsets.
