I can’t cheer for Kansas but I despise Sanders. So, come on giant meteor or drone strike.

Arizona State is a few steps from being in the Big XII title game with a coach, Kenny Dillingham, who looks like he's barely old enough to take keg stands.

Cam Skattebo is the kind of player -- deceptively fast, tough white fullback with a great name who plays his ass off -- who will become a folk hero at Arizona State and probably with whatever NFL team he signs with as an undrafted free agent.

Kansas is cutting through Big 12 contenders like they killed their dog and stole their car.

My kid is a sophomore at ASU. He was at a game and texted me “They need to build a statue of this guy.” I didn’t need to ask who he was referring to.

I have no idea how they retain players given where they practice and play. My law school roommate was recruited to wrestle and play football and he lasted 3 weeks. Another law school classmate was a kick returner and he was one of the top in the country his junior and senior years in terms of yards because they gave up so many points.

That was an epically stupid way to lose by Rutgers. Icing a kicker about to attempt a 58 yarder with 14 seconds to go in the swirling wind. The kicker tries the FG after the timeout is called, misses it and they decide instead to put the offense on. Next play is a 40 yard TD.

They practice and play in best neighborhood in Manhattan!

It's definitely a different setup though the program was helped immensely when they built the new athletic facility at 218th St. When they were trying to get it built, my friend who works as a Columbia spokesman asked if I might attend a community meeting where they were discussing the construction. He knew I supported it and also knew the meeting would mostly be people yelling at Columbia's folks. I was happy to go and even enjoyed getting lightly booed when I was the only one to speak in support of the project (NIMBY liberals!). I was completely sincere, though, and not just talking to support my friend--it's VERY cool having Division I sports a five-minute walk away while still getting to live in Manhattan: football, baseball, soccer, track, field hockey, softball. Residents get mad because five days out of the year traffic is bad during football games for four hours. Give me a break. Another complaint was, "I've seen drunk Columbia kids pissing on the side of the street after games." Which, okay, bad. Don't do that, kids. But...people pissing on the streets of New York? You've never seen that before? That's a reason not to build the facility?

Also, not that Columbia people would say this publicly, Columbia was up here long before Inwood was any kind of neighborhood. They've had facilities up here for over 100 years.

Belichick's return to coaching might hinge on his ability to draft Cam Skattebo

The Benny Hill Show theme would have been appropriate for the ensuing kickoff return that went backward for a safety.
"Here, you take it ... OK, I'll throw it ... Hey, we're going the wrong way!"
