I remember him more for "Love Connection."

 

I was one of five people who loved the gameshow “Greed.”

 

RIP, Chuck. Always a congenial host.

Woolery told PEOPLE in 1986 that while audiences liked to see
contestants find love, they “enjoy the dates that fail even more."

And, yep, that's Amerika for ya.

He hosted Wheel of Fortune in the golden era, when the winners had to immediately “shop” and buy a bunch of overpriced crap with their winnings. “For $368, I’ll take the ceramic Dalmatian.”

He was a dick, but RIP.

 

Yeah, I always hated the shopping part as a kid. It just disrupted the flow of the show. Then at the end, they’d get asked if they wanted their remainder “on account” or a gift certificate. Nearly everyone chose the gift certificate. Once in a while, someone would choose the “account”, then spin a Bankrupt in the next game and lose whatever was on the account. Which made the whole “accounts concept dumb.

Chuck also did a cameo in a movie called “How I Got Into College” which had Anthony Edwards and a young Lara Flynn Boyle in it. Chuck appeared at the end in a convertible with two beautiful models and invited the main character’s sidekick into going with them while they traveled the country giving away game show prizes.

In second grade and maybe third, I used to spend the afternoons at my Aunt Marsha’s apartment until my parents got home from work. She couldn’t afford cable on a teacher’s salary, so we made due with the two static-y channels that came in. Given that limited assortment of choices, her favorite show in that afternoon slot was Love Connection.

Now of course I had absolutely no business watching that at my age, but what else are you gonna do in a tiny one-bedroom apartment with nothing else but a Speak & Spell for amusement? So there I was, laughing along with 80s wink-and-a-nod innuendo.
