I want to add a preface to this post, so I will say that issue polls are very close to useless because the biggest liar in American politics is the American electorate. But, CBS released a poll today finding that 1. Respondents believe Trump's highest priiority should be lowering the cost of goods and services. 2. A narrow majority, 52 percent, favors tariffs on imported goods. 3. A wider majority, 59 percent, believes said tariffs will make the prices of goods they buy more expensive. One can only conclude that as a group 340 million Americans are too fucking stupid for self-governance.

    Trump: Where you from, Sherrod?
    Brown: I'm from Ohio, sir.
    Trump: Whereabouts?
    Brown: Mansfield, sir.
Trump: How far are you from Springfield?
    Brown: Springfield, Ohio?
    Trump: Uh-huh.
    Brown: About one hundred miles.
Trump: I went down there once. All the Haitians were eating the pets of the people that lived there....why are you here, Sherrod?
Brown: I lost to an amateur.
    Trump: And you're a populist?
    Brown: Yes, sir.
Trump: Then why'd you lose to a Mercedes-Benz dealer?
    Brown: NAFTA, sir.
Trump: NAFTA? Lots of Republicans supported that and it was 30 years ago.
Brown: Yes, sir. But only Democrats are to be blamed for it. And trans people. Trans athletes is the number one issue facing America, apparently.

I am visiting my parents next week (actually arriving on Thanksgiving Day), and while I am on the same side as them politically, their heavy viewing of MSNBC will lead to way too much Trump discussion and consternation.

As you say, we need to dial down the outrage meter sometimes or it will be burned out by the time he takes office and starts doing things that need opposition.

But so is rehiring someone who got fired for causing the deaths of thousands of people, lied about why he was fired, sent a violent mob to attack to his supervisors after being fired, lied about the attack for years, showed no remorse, and is clearly in worse shape then when first hired.

I hear you – and I hope this is already implied given my history on this thread and board – and I agree with you.

But that was for the FBC coaching carousel thread. Zero politics in the statement you quoted of mine.

Oh I know, Sam. It just struck a chord with me. And that is why I didn't include it in the FBC thread.

Florida getting rid of fluoride in our drinking water as a sign of supplication to Dear Leader. But how about the price of eggs?

Flying up to Oregon tomorrow to spend Thanksgiving with the in laws. My wife’s parents should be quintessential Trump voters: from very Red California, no college degrees, white boomers. But they think Trump is ridiculous. I’m sure they’ll make comments and my wife—who is still raging about the election—is going to take it as an invitation. I just want to enjoy a break. But the worst bit is her brother is probably Trumper. He works for the government in a Navy town. Works for people all day who are for sure Trumpers and he isn’t likely to get much of the other side. He’s a cynic by nature and will likely be willing to make fun of Trump but my wife will probably say something. I’ll get him talking football, so I’ll be fine. I’m just worried for the moments when we get to our Air BnB and I’ll have to hear about all of it. I have a week off from school. I want to drink beer and not think.

What I cannot understand (and help me if you wish, good people of the board) ...

As a military brat, how could you have voted for you-know-who not only because he called GIs "losers" and "suckers" and because he dodged Vietnam with numerous tests claiming bone spurs, but also because there's no telling how many of those documents he and his merry band of idiots took down to Mar-A-Lago might well be sold to the highest bidder – many of which we don't consider allies?
