Did VHS skew your perspective?

Greatest VHS achievement was my brothers and I recording our favorite music videos for the better part of a year. Lucked into a Blinded Me With Science straight into a KISS' Lick It Up. Felt like we'd won the lottery.

 

Hot Dog, along with Spring Break, are among my great cinematic guilty pleasures from that era

 

I had a bootleg tape with Hot Dog, Spring Break, and Hardbodies on it.
The inspiration for this thread is I watched Hardbodies last night and Spring Break tonight on Tubi.

 

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia had an absolutely hilarious homage/updating of ski movies in "The Gang Hits The Ski Slopes"

Apparently it was a homage to/updating of "Ski School," which came out in 1991, well after the VHS peak. But it's got all the tropes of those borderline soft core comedies.

 

And if we're talking great movies of the VHS era we gotta mention "The Last American Virgin," which had a ton of nudity for a horned up pre-teen but also the most stunning twist ending the genre ever saw.

 

Me and my friend tried making a girl on our computer. Didn't work.

 

ACTUALLY making a girl?

 

My favorite was when someone didn’t know, or didn’t care, that something important was on a VHS tape.

My sister was a prime offender. I taped the Bears’ Super Bowl win and clearly wrote SUPER BOWL XX on the VHS tape. Went to watch it a few years later (no doubt after a late-1980s playoff choke job), and a few minutes in there was a Golden Girls episode. Grrrr …

 

They do a lot of movie references that are a product of them watching VHS, like the Lethal Weapon fascination.

 

You might get a one- (or two-) night stand, but Leslie backed away the second Kevin suggested they move in together.

 

What about a sailboat race?

 

Spring Break is a typically cheesy jiggle flick, with a thin plot, from that era but as a guy who had been to Lauderdale for spring break in the late 80s and visited all the bars they go to it brings back a lot of good memories for me every time I watch it.
