I just read a listicle from Esquire of the top 30 Thanksgiving TV episodes and WKRP's was not on it. Effing disgrace. Very much like an ESPN best-of list that doesn't include anything from before 1980.

    I feel judged.

Anyway, the wife, 15-year-old daughter, brother, sister-in-law, twin 10-year-olds and I are sitting in LaGuardia headed home after five days in NYC. The Mrs. And I have been here several times. It was the first for the rest. We had an incredible time. All the touristy things are better when you’re watching kids experience them.

Happy Thanksgiving to y’all. And if you’re traveling, good luck and be safe.

(NYC SJ, next time I’m in town I’ll holler.)

Tag Pennsylvania SJ when you do. Amtrak’s a two hour ride.

Say a prayer for my stretchy pants. They’re about to make the ultimate sacrifice.

    happy Thanksgiving, folks.

We have a family friend whose daughter plays in the UMass band, which is marching in the Macy's parade today. Turned on the TV just in time to see them. Looks like a nasty day in the Big Apple.

Gray and 40 in Microville, but not raining. My club was open this morning so I got my swim in and can now eat with impunity later today. We go to some friend's house (my wife and that family's wife grew up together in SD), there's a gathering of about 10 of us and we've been getting together and TG and Xmas for almost 20 years. Good fun.

Happy turkey day to all in SJ.Com world. Be well and be happy.

This is largely what's happened in my family, particularly of late.

And I can't even say I hate it. I'm a mix in terms of personality -- I can converse, and enjoy a good discussion, and be sociable. But I can also be a bit of a loner, sometimes, and lately, I just would rather be by myself, or be part of a small gathering, instead of in the midst of a full-on family Thanksgiving. I long for just a two- or three-person event, with just those I actually care to see, and can communicate with because we don't have to shelve a large portion of discussions (you know, because politics/issues have, indeed, become the things most worth talking about now).

It's a sad state of affairs, and a divisiveness, within families, and the country, that I attribute, in large part, directly to Donald Trump. He's the most divisive person in the nation. And will be our President in less than two months. Again.

Generally speaking, I'm a thankful, grateful, contented person, but I can't really say I feel that way at all today.

Well, shit. Video call is off. Stepmom's cancer took a turn and what was going to be 1-2 months of palliative care or hospice is now down to a few hours. And here I am, stuck on the other side of the world and looking into short-notice intercontinental flights again.

That $58.08 is for the entire group.
Another mind-boggler in the other direction ...

The costs of this year’s holiday feast — estimated at $58.08 for a 10-person gathering, or $5.81 a head — dropped 5% since last year, the lowest level since 2021, according to a nationwide survey of grocery prices by the American Farm Bureau Federation, which represents millions of U.S. farmers. But the picture improves further when adjusted for inflation.
