Watched the first two complete games of Rutgers basketball in my life this week. They aren’t getting far in March Madness due to a wildly imbalanced roster. But they do have two likely first-round picks playing as freshmen.

Ace Bailey is very good but a bit unpolished. There are aspects of his game that he needs to clean up before making the jump, and he absolutely needs to work on becoming a 3-point threat because it isn’t there right now.

Dylan Harper on the other hand is an unholy terror. Fluid shooting motion, nearly unstoppable scorer, even when everyone knows the play is for him. Probably could get more assists if he had more than one teammate worth a shit. Dropped 37 points on Alabama a night after scoring 36 against Notre Dame. Some lottery team is going to be very happy next year.

Forgot to mention he is Ron Harper’s kid.

It's thanksgiving day. Isn't the point of playing out November, December, January and February to see how a team develops?

I'm more than a little worried about what that's gonna mean for the Big East regular season.

they are exactly the type of team that gets to the elite eight because they have the two best players on the floor for three straight games

If you can’t rebound and can’t make 3s, that is a hard thing to gloss over in March. And they aren’t getting the type of seed that will protect them the first weekend.

But Harper is the truth. Or as his dad’s T-shirt put it, a cheat code.

I feel like they have five seed written all over them and they get placed against a beatable one

Has any team ever capitalized less on the prestige bump from winning a title than UVa?

Marquette, Maryland, Syracuse in modern era. Stanford, Wyoming in the early years.
Still 115 wins since that glorious night in Minneapolis in 2019. In the ACC, only Duke has more.
