I listened to that game the first 3/4 of the way before switching off after it was clear that Purdue was done and dusted. Did not sound like any kind of fluke. Nits are gonna cause fits all winter.

Was curious how the Doug Gottlieb experiment would work in Green Bay. 2-7 so far. Its not looking good.

I'm following that team somewhat, because they landed Isaiah Miranda (Rhode Island native) in the off-season - A former Top 50 recruit, a legit 7-footer, who's flirted with going pro but also been at the end of the bench for Oklahoma State and North Carolina State and barely played. At Green Bay, he got 17 minutes across four games, and he's just gotten DNPs since then. No clue if he's hurt, or if he's just bad / ineffective after so long without playing, or if he's a major headcase.

They were surprisingly frisky against URI the other week - down double digits in the first half, rallying to take a brief lead in the second, before URI managed to recover and keep them at arm's length of 2 or 3 possessions away for the final 8 minutes or so, IIRC.

I don't doubt Gottlieb's hoops knowledge, or ability to find players - I do wonder if he has the patience for the modern college basketball player and the myriad other things coaches have to deal with. He didn't exactly go "all in" by keeping the radio gig.

Green Bay seems low enough on the hoops totem pole that his level of "fame" might be enough to attract decent players and improve the program. They've played Oklahoma State, Providence and Ohio State, and some decent mid-major teams, so they're clearly an OOC body bag team. But maybe they'll be OK during conference play.

Neutral Corner has a pamphlet he’d like to share called “So your school decided to go all in on a celebrity meme coach.”

I heard his show yesterday afternoon (the local outlet must tape it). Does he have a studio in Green Bay?

The one thing that program has that they haven't had for quite a while is quality depth. Rhoades has accumulated eight guys who are high-level D-I players. Baldwin, Puff Johnson, Dilione, Kern ... they would be getting minutes for anyone in the nation.

They did that last night without getting much of anything from Yanic Konan Niederhauser, the 7-footer who's been dominant against lesser comp so far. Regardless, he's a very accomplished shot-blocker.

I look at that, and my first thought is something that they didn't mention. I'm wondering if part of the move away from MTEs has to do with coaches' concern over a roster of players, many of whom with newly found NIL money in their pocket, being dropped into an exotic locale for a few days (and nights).

Although I know that has been a recruiting selling point in the past, maybe coaches are tired of the baby-sitting.
