Yup, they will let the conference champions in but they won't reward them with four of the byes.

Not sure how Boise gamed the system. They won all their games, sans Oregon who they played close, and beat UNLV twice, who was ranked most of the year. If they had lost another game they wouldn't have been ahead of the Big 12 champ and maybe not in the tournament at all. Their ranking is probably about right, although you could maybe argue for a spot or two higher.

That said, yeah, they'll change the rules. Maybe they should anyway, it only makes sense to have the highest ranked teams to host or have the advantages, but there is also nothing wrong with rewarding conference champs. This also has happened in part to the Pac 12 not being around. If they were, Boise wouldn't get a bye this year.

I'm not saying they gamed the system. But certainly can't have them ahead of Big Ten and SEC teams in the seedings.

What if they would have beaten Oregon, and if Oregon beats Penn State? They would have a valid argument to be seeded ahead of the Big Ten champ.

    That would have been chaos.

Maybe a response to the other comment, which did put quotes on it so I think we're all on the same page. It's almost amazing they have Boise ranked as highly as they do. In the playoff era it has been so tough to get non-power teams to be ranked above like 14th.

This is a goofy year because outside I guess Oregon, who even then has three wins of three points, no one has been dominant. And you lose the Pac 12, in which Oregon would have likely won then you'd have another BIG team.

Not sure if every year is going to have this many question marks, but I think it is why everyone wanted an expanded field in the first place.

Mike Gundy just took a pay cut to stay at Oklahoma State. He was making 7,75 million a year. The savings on his salary will be redistributed to the NIL collective. I think this is the beginning of a trend. In a competitive market place would you rather have a 10 million dollar coach or a two million dollar coach but eight million dollars of additional on-field talent?.

I can’t figure out if it’s Skattabo or the offensive line.

If Boise makes the playoffs and plays credibly in the first round I wonder how many of their starters who still have eligibility hit the portal and see how much more they can make in one of the leagues with more lucrative television contracts.

This is going to be like an Abbott and Costello sketch.

Nobody from the Pac 12 made the postseason because there are only two schools.
But former Pac 12 member Oregon is representing the Big Ten, which has 18 schools.
And former Pac 12 and WAC member Arizona State is representing the Big 12, which has 16 schools.
And former Big 12 and SWC member Texas is representing the SEC.
And former SWC and WAC member Southern Methodist is representing the ACC.
And former WAC member Boise State will represent the Pac 12 starting in 2026, which has six schools.

If that is true, that is frigging awesome.

I remember specifically here, posters with worries about the NIL system. And posters here were talking to coaches.

Perhaps the coaches were just prescient.

This Big 12 game is a blowout. I'm just watching to see if there will be any glare issues.

Notre Dame probably has a bigger beef than either ACC or Big 12 or MWC champ for who should get a bye.

Everyone knew there would still be controversy in a 12-team playoff same as the four-team playoff. It'll be the same in a 16-team playoff and maybe even 32.
