SMU can figure it out. They know how to meet a payroll.

That's one helluva ACC title game. The commissioner couldn't have scripted it better. The committee will have a very hard time keeping SMU out.

Perhaps. Just depends on what they want to consider important. Alabama had two wins vs. Top 25. SMU had none. On the other hand, Alabama lost to Vanderbilt and Oklahoma. SMU has no egregious losses on its resume.

My SJU Johnnies went down in D3 playoffs today. Thought this was the year for fifth title.

In other Minnesota small-division football, Minnesota State in the D2 playoffs rallied from nine down in second half. Third straight week in the playoffs they've come from two scores down in the second half (first week it was from 19-10 down in final two minutes; recovered onside kick). Need Justin Ray or Elias to tell me if that's ever been done in playoffs at any level. I'd assume no.

Twelve of 130+ NCAA FBS football teams is less than 10%. Hardly too many.

    We disagree. No big deal.

Was shocked to see defending champion Cartland get its doors blown off in the first round.

I do like the byes because even for teams safely in, that’s enough of a reward to ensure they go all out in conference title games. And as we saw, it makes it exciting for the leagues that may or will only get a single bid.

At the same time, it does set up a brutal situation where Penn State is now worse off than Indiana and Texas worse off than Tennessee despite finishing higher in the standings. Rolling straight into the first round off a 13th game and less rest is way more punitive than finishing third in an elite conference.

Unfortunately there is no good way to solve for both problems.
