If memory serves, the Cyclones-Hawkeyes football series also was suspended for about 20 years after a game in the late 1970s ended in a riot.

I’m sure in both instances it was the fault of the Big 8 teams! ;)

I don't know where the Independence Bowl lands on the hierarchy of bowls but I feel bad for Army that they can't play a bigger named opponent (No offense Marshall).

Like I'd rather see them get a chance to face Florida, Oklahoma or West Virginia like others in their conference.

Florida-Tulane is a matchup of former SEC, and before that, Southern Conference foes. Florida leads the series, 13-6-2. They last met in 1984 and have played twice in Tampa, in 1969 and 1920 (both regular-season games).

The Gators have won the last 11 meetings, with Tulane's last win in the series coming in 1946.

I know quite a few people that either played in this game or were attending the respective school during the time when this game was played. It's a still a MAJOR point of pride for ECU people and an even bigger point of anger for the NC State crew.

Tulane has lost 13 in a row against SEC teams, and is 2-41 against them since beating Vanderbilt in 1989. Tulane beat Mississippi State in 2006, and also in 2003, for its only wins.
Those 43 games in the current run have only been against six teams — a steady diet of Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Auburn, LSU and Alabama, and then one game this year against Oklahoma. They beat Vanderbilt six times in the 1980s and haven't played since, so apparently Vanderbilt had had enough.

I would have loved to hear Lee Corso announce the pairing of Miami vs. Alabama in the "CFP Doesn't Want Us" bowl on the next Gameday broadcast.

This is what bowl games should strive for, relevant regional matchups. Syracuse playing in the Holiday Bowl makes absolutely no sense (and anybody playing in Boise makes no sense). WSU will probably have a good turnout in the Holiday Bowl unless the entire team enters the portal.

Has to be the first time a bowl game’s first and last name were the same.

Still breathlessly waiting for the first time Liberty plays in the Liberty Bowl and they snag Liberty Mutual as a last-minute title sponsor.
