My wife works for a blood bank, and they give out swag to everyone who donates blood or blood-related products. They approached Big State U. to see about including their logos on some sweatshirts during football season, and Big State U. said "Sure, just pay us a $100,000 licensing fee." That was a non-starter.

They then reached out to local NFL team - one that is basically the gold standard over the last few years - and NFL team said, "Of course, it's a great cause. Do what you want and use it however you see fit." Not only did they give that permission, they kicked them a bunch of tickets to give away as incentives to donate, and had the head coach film a couple of video spots encouraging people to come and donate blood to use on social media.

That gave me some reassurance that the world isn't a completely fucked-up, corporate-driven shitstorm.

Good that a small state like RI plays intercollegiately in-state and it's like pulling teeth in a slightly-bigger state like Arkansas. That got loosened up a little by UA's Yuracheck, who lifted Saint Frank's edict that there be no intra-state challenge.

URI is still doing it - they have a yearly series with Providence College and Brown. PC has pulled out of the Brown one, and made noise about stopping the URI game when Cooley was the coach. (I'm not sure how serious this ever was, since Cooley really enjoyed being a wrestling-like heel whenever he could when it came to URI.) My thinking is that I'd always rather have games against teams like Brown and Bryant, vs. paying the East Tennessee Western States of the world to come in for a body bag game.
