It requires people to actually read. People will post the same tweet within five posts of each other. Even when a courtesy summary of a link is given.

Of course the ignore button may play a role, too.

It is an issue because the right wing media has dealt a steady diet of “the criminals from other countries are coming to get you”. Our country has been prosperous the 3 years which you cite with minimal unemployment, but the drumbeat has been that “they” are taking your jobs and raping your women.

Nah, it's an issue because far too many immigrants came into America over a short period of time, overwhelming services, especially in major American cities like NYC and Chicago. That's obvious to anyone paying much attention, and now that the left got pummeled by literally the worst American president in history, the national media will start to say more of the true things, since the other approach failed miserably.

Why would services be "overwhelmed" in a period that is seeing the lowest rate of POPULATION growth (because our birth rates are so low)?

Aren't the immigrants, at worst, taking the place of the extra 1-2 kids that aren't being born today that were in 1955?

Because the services needed - related, for example, to language services - can often be in short supply, especially when new populations are not dispersed evenly.

The dirty secret about immigration - and I'm against this as much as anything - is that American companies don't really want a good financial/cultural on ramp for immigrant populations, lest, in short periods of time, they learn English, organize, start to ask for the living wages they deserve.

Rapacious Wall Street and corporate shareholders demand persistent growth. This is part of how it's achieved. For reasons almost beyond me, Democrats seem OK with this; they imagine themselves good Samaritans.

Generations of people have lived in NYC without ever learning English. I’m not saying that the asylum system works, but a huge amount of the congressional ads in the NYC suburbs (including mine) were about the “migrant crisis” when it didn’t impact those voters lives in the least.

I don’t understand your point about corporations/Wall Street. To the extent they speak as one, they want cheap labor above all else and the smaller the labor supply, the higher the employee bargaining power and the lower the margins. I have never seen any company have a position with respect on ramps for immigrant populations and don’t understand that argument at all.

But hey, you were able to get a nonsensical dig in on Democrats at the end, so mission accomplished.

Ok, forget about a legit foreign service professional being passed over, we know how these ambassador gigs are doled out - but imagine if you were a big time Trump donor who thought they had Greece in the bag, only to learn it is a "lovely parting gift" for the former fiancee of Trump's son. "Hey, How bout Malta? Malta is good? Croatia? You know, where they shot Game of Thrones? Hey, what can I say, she said she wanted Greece and she'd sign the NDA."

The biggest flaw of American business is chasing that. If you posted a record year in 2023 and you don't in 2024, it's a failure.
