We did that at our wedding many moons ago. We did have a professional photographer, but my wife though we might get some nice candids with the point and shoots. We did not. A couple of them weren't used at all.

Back in 1993 when I attended Elizabeth Murdoch’s wedding, daddy Rupert had photographers taking photos of us guests at our tables and later at the valet stand they handed us the photos in garishly ornate frames. This was well before digital so they obviously set up a dark room somewhere in the Bel Air mansion.

The first commercial DSLR was launched by Canon in 1991.

I would love to read more about this, including how you crashed it.

This was really popular in the late 90s early 2000s, which is when I and all my peers got married. I can't think of a wedding that didn't do this during that era!

Judging by last year's choice being decided about now, I'm guessing the choice will be Caitlyn Clark and Simone Biles as co-winners. They've both already done enough to merit the award, and aren't likely to go on a 10 game losing streak by the time the issue hits the stands, like last year's selection.

If I was an oddsmaker I'd put Biles at -300 for SOY. Olympians are a can't-lose call and Biles' comeback story is terrific.

I'd agree. You can probably save Clark for a future year, whereas Biles might be in another Olympics, but the gymnastics world is finally catching up to her.

SI has some talented writers and I am sure any feature of Biles would be good. But I wish Frank Deford could be resurrected to write that piece. While I am in awe of Gary Smith was you always knew it was a Gary Smith piece but you never knew where Deford would take a feature.

I could see it being multiple women. Sydney M has to be in consideration.

I can't even think of a male athlete in the conversation since Mahomes won it a few years ago. I do think Clark dominated the sports conversation for the better part of the year. And Biles is the GOAT. Maybe throw in Ledecky.
