I dunno. Bill seems pretty happy with his current girlfriend.

First thought is that Arch would have to jump from a Top Five SEC team to UNC just as he becomes first string at UT, to join whatever UNC has. I can't see it.

Ewers is reportedly going into the NFL Draft after this season. So Arch will be starting at Texas next season.

And are we not hearing the same glowing words about streaming that we were hearing about cable 20-30 years ago? And now cable seems on the outs.

In the late 90s, it was Miami/VT and the six chumps, with the occasional Pitt/Syracuse/BC cameo. Hokies were pretty damn good the back half of the decade, culminating in the Vick year in '99 and the run to the national title game. Hokies actually beat Miami five straight years from 95-99.

Youtube TV just went up ten bucks a month. Nearly a grand a year at this point.

Live sports is still the easiest way to reach a desired demographic. I'm just not sure its the most efficient use of ad dollars. And once advertisers figure THAT out - bad times for big time sports.
Just look at how podcasts have eclipsed Big Media, how the biggest acts in music this year came out of nowhere, etc.

Why is this on the coaching thread?

NCAA also gets an assist on that one for putting Miami on probation for one of their annual rules violations. Their record from 1995-99 was a slightly above mediocre 40-19. In 1997, an average Pitt team that was coming off 72-0 and 60-6 losses to Ohio State and Notre Dame the year before defeated Miami on a Thursday night, as Miami went 5-6. You're right though. The late 1990s was when Virginia Tech became Tech under Michael Vick and Beamer. Those were fun teams to watch.

The discussion turned to NIL and which schools could thrive in the new college football environment. Just a natural turn in the conversation.

Ms SixToe and I were discussing this last night after she said the Toob is now $10 a month.

Add all the other subs for Apple+, Paramount+, Hulu, Booloo, AppleCore, Th' Flix, Peacock, Amazon Prime and whatever else, and you're laying out a bunch of money for a lot of shit you don't watch and just a few things you do. Just like cable, which everyone disliked "because we have 392 channels and I watch maybe 10." Well, now it's pretty much the same thing but on multiple streaming services.

    Insane.

I teach at a university in a big-time conference, and I can't name a single player on the football or men's basketball teams. I can name one women's basketball player, two soccer players and a volleyball player because they are in the major I teach.

I've heard Oregon as a grad transfer. Better paycheck (which would also be true at many other of America's gooder colleges).
