Online subscriptions

I canceled the Post a couple weeks back. Load of good it does for me, since the annual subscription had just renewed. I get that it's merely virtue signaling, but it made me feel slightly better.

 

I did the same, along with getting rid of my Prime membership. I've surely saved some $$$ since I'm not buying a bunch of crap I don't need and wind up giving to Goodwill or throwing away.

I only do NYT/Athletic as my subscriptions, plus an annual donation to the local alt-weekly that is hanging on for dear life but covers a lot of the city better than the local paper. I may also have a free subscription to the WSJ through my job with Big State U.

 

I subscribe to seven newspapers and eight magazines. I signed up for the LA Times and Chicago Tribune on the introductory offer but will cancel when they roll over to the higher rates. I also may subscribe to the Denver Post. There on-line subscription is so screwed up that I am not sure.

K.C. Star for Chiefs coverage, although it was better before Sam Mellinger got a comms job with the Royals. Still, Vahe is always a good read. I still have access to the NYT because my children's mother had a sub through work at the university. I dropped the Post-Dispatch when they wanted to jack my rate up, so now I just see the headlines.

In younger days, I had subscriptions to a lots of magazines: Rolling Stone, Spin, Esquire, GQ, Details, SI and National Geographic. Maybe one more that I can't remember. I read each one cover to cover, but I haven't had a sub to any of them in years, decades maybe.

 

I signed up for a free month of a New Jersey Gannett paper when I was researching & writing something a month ago. Meant to cancel before the first month kicked in ($24.99) but of course I did not. Just went there to cancel and got six months at $1/mo. Worth it if I ever need it for researching/writing purposes again. Just gotta remember to cancel in June (I won't).

 

I'm down to Texas Monthly (still great!) and the Boston Globe. Like it still, but with the baby in the picture, I don't really have time to keep up with the news back home besides occasional glances at the Rhode Map.

 

I have Apple’s News+, which is ridiculously low considering all the things it centralizes — including The Athletic but not the Times.

 

Well, hell. Texas Monthly is $25 for a print and online subscription, so I subscribed. Their website has a ton of interesting stories. I wish I was good enough to work there.
