I was just trying to figure out a good way to describe my reaction to that post by garrow. My response wasn't as good as yours! What you said -- exactly. I already could feel myself slinking into a snail shell, or something, just reading that post.

I agree with you - but it would be best if something was written in ink. A genuine policy. We've seen too many senior legislators become too reliant on staff and become shells of themselves. I do wonder who has been the controlling voice in Biden's ear this past year. Jill? Hunter? His staff? And they haven't done a great job protecting his legacy.

Yep, our President is going to be a mob boss, and his Cabinet the henchmen.

Not exactly the image (and reality!) I'd like the U.S. to present.

I still remember traveling through Alberta with my son to catch some NHL action at the end of 2017.

Amid hockey talk, a few locals cautiously asked, “So what do you think about Trump, eh?”

When my son and I said he was an embarrassment and our country’s worst president ever, they would reply, “Yeah, he’s pretty bad alright. But at least you don’t have Trudeau!”

In NC, the GOP lost the governor's race and the AG race. Did they self-flagellate? Did they collapse to the floor mewling and wondering how they can reach out to Dems?

    Noooooooooo.

Instead, they merely stripped powers away from the positions they lost. No debate. No postmortem. No adjustments. No soul searching. No new strategies. Just contempt for democracy.

One of my mother's better friends contracted polio in her early 20s, shortly after being married in the early 50s -- just before the vaccine. She had four kids, lived to 70 --but was completely wheelchair bound for close to 50 years and it was a never ending ordeal for the family.

The family bore up under this for decade after decade, because they never blamed anybody. That was the way of the world in the 40s/50s -- people got polio. Not frequently -- it was still very rare -- but often enough that most families had a neighbor or distant cousin, somebody they knew or knew of, with polio. It happened.

Until the vaccine, when it didn't happen anymore. Or it won't happen anymore until the antivaxxers take control, people quit getting vaccinated and herd immunity starts breaking down.

So then there will be people in wheelchairs and iron lungs again. And this time, it won't "just happen." This time you won't be really able to say, "there's nobody to blame." This time there will be people to blame.

    And 400M...

    Every bit of this.

I can almost be rational and soldier on with a heavy sigh until I remember my kids will never know the America I did. Then I get angry all over again.

GOP should have put Trump away in January 2021 when they had the chance. Since Biden was doomed to have a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad presidency...literally any Republican would have won this year right? They didn't need the most ignorant, racist, traitorous, seditious ghoul out there, a literal golem sent from the white hollers of America to wreak havoc on the most tepid strands of liberalism still left in the country of George Wallace, Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms.

They could have gotten their precious judges, their fat tax cuts and whatever else their black hearts desired...without having every department run by some Fox News meatbag.

Swap out the name “Donald Trump” for, I dunno, Bernie Sanders and I don’t know how many people disagree with what’s written. Why would David Frum and Tom Nichols pick that particular bill to die on?

Do they want AI taking over their social media commentaries? I’m guessing not
