You know, the FCS playoffs are a nice palate cleanser from bigtime CFB.

The Incarnate Word is not "defense."

SDSU up 28-0 at halftime in Daktronicsville.

And they go for it on fourth-and-10 from their own 12, down three touchdowns.

Manuel's family is made of money. Tebow collected an NFL salary. Reggie Bush collected an NFL salary. My heart does not bleed for these alleged victims.

Just think how good they'd be if 75% of the games weren't decided by more than two touchdowns.

Some D3 wackiness. Susquehanna trails Bethel 21-17 in final minute. Fourth and goal from the 1. Bethel has no timeouts. Instead of letting clock run down and going for the make-or-break play, Sus calls timeout with like 45 seconds. They do score to take 24-21 lead but now Bethel has time. Bethel gets it down to the Sus 30 and spikes it with 5 seconds. Instead of going for long field goal (this is a D3 kicker), they run one more play...and throw a game-winning TD pass. Bethel players storm the field.

But hold on! Holding call. They also call Bethel for unsportsmanlike after flipping out over the holding call. Refs huddle and announce game is over. Susquehanna storms the field.

But hold on! Game can't end on enforced penalty. Bethel is now backed up 25 yards. They try a million laterals and only succeed in going back a million yards and finally get tackled at their own 5.

They didn't announce number on the hold but must be on the right edge. Looks kind of legit. But maybe not? I don't know if I call it.

"Kind of legit?" He wraps up the guy with both arms and practically tackles him, that is holding at any level.

Clear UC after the play. Bethel No. 58 rips off his helmet and throws it on the field. You can't do that, it's an automatic penalty.

The Bethel complaints are this was the first offensive holding call of the entire game and there were some fairly blatant ones ignored throughout the game. Refs were letting them play, such as it is. Until literally the final play. I did ask a ref friend too and he didn't think it warranted a flag as it didn't impede the defender and the flailing is what draws attention to it. I wouldn't throw a flag because I enjoy seeing last-second TDs, but that wouldn't be a good philosophy to use as a ref. So I do think it's holding but also understand Bethel frustration with them calling this when it was pretty much anything goes for 59 minutes and 55 seconds. That said, since my Johnnies went 2-0 against Bethel during the year and it was going to be quite annoying if they went on to win the national title, I'm not upset.

UC Davis living on the edge on the road against South Dakota. It's 21-14 'Yotes but could very easily be 42-14. USD has gifted UCD an interception in the end zone and just now a fumble recovery inside the 5. Davis QB threw three INTs himself in the first half as South Dakota's secondary is excellent.

USD QB Aidan Bouman's dad Todd played in the NFL though Minnesotans probably best remember Todd for his dunking exploits as a high school hoops star.

TIL Al Neuharth graduated from South Dakota in 1950, and the media center on campus is named after him. I definitely would choose Cocoa Beach over Vermillion.
