Good on the Sabans. He seems like a decent person and unlike some, I've always liked him.

Did he mean "Arena Football League draft?"

Besides that, though, these "declaring for the NFL draft" statements that have become a thing the past year or two annoy the hell out of me. You've used up all your eligibility, bro, and you were a backup tight end on a 3-9 FCS team. You ain't declaring for shit. Good luck to you and all, but feel free to schedule that fishing trip for draft weekend. You don't even need to put your phone on silent mode when you're in the boat. It won't be ringing.

Every time an athlete tweets “With all that being said,” I translate it as “I didn’t mean any of the fawning bullshit located above this paragraph.”

Won't play in team's bowl game, but will play in all-star game. Huh?

Was that woman in the West Virginia ad waving a Confederate flag, because it sure looked like it.

Saban is one of those guys who irritated the hell out of me when he coached. LOVED seeing him lose. Like Coach K. But Saban really seems to be a decent person. I don't know if I've ever heard about a disgruntled player he coached.

I did like that line from the long recent story about Derrick Henry in HS and college where Henry was concerned that Alabama was going to convert him to defense once he showed up on campus. Saban said something like — I’m a pretty good recruiter and if I need to get a top defender, I would just recruit them.

Interesting finish to Some-Kinda-Coffee-Store Bowl late last night. Big underdog W.Va., trailing Memphis by 5 with less than a minute to go, reaches midfield. Next pass is intercepted. Memphis defensive back runs around a little bit, then on the way down, the ball is punched out of his grasp. W.Va. recovers, netting about a 20-yard gain and a first down. Still 40-some seconds to go. But the refs look at video replay and decide the interceptor was giving himself up and had started his slide. Even though neither knee nor elbow hit the ground before the ball was punched, they ruled he was down. Memphis takes a knee and it's over.

Saw that, and had no idea that was a rule. If he'd lost the ball on his own while going down, would it still have been a fumble?
And there was only eight or nine seconds left. West Virginia would've had to throw a hail Mary, but I think they were at about the 40-yard line if they'd gotten the ball back.

Any agent worth even $1 would advise a player that playing in the Senior Bowl or Shrine Bowl is an acceptable risk because those are part of the pre-draft process, but playing in the Ex-Lax Toilet Bowl is not.

Or what happens sometimes is players go through all the Senior Bowl practices (the part the NFL actually cares about) and then peace out before kickoff.
