I'd *almost* have more respect for them if they'd say, "We have a responsibility to make decisions that are in the best interests of the league and its television partners" and leave it at that.

Season ticket holders of all 32 teams are in flux the last two weekends of the year. Decisions for next week came out yesterday. It's kind of bullshit.

Man, regarding that Athletic story about the Chargers fans - that is a REALLY bad look for the league.
Fuck around with fans enough, and they will find other ways to spend their money.

I love the NFL and football as much as anybody, but can't fathom the idea of spending that much money and that much time and hassle to want to go to a game in person anymore.

Give me my 4k high-def TV, my cheap beer and food, the comfort of my own couch, and the ability to change games or change channels if things get too lopsided.

Having the flex happen so close to the holiday really exacerbates the issue. You can't just easily tack on two days to an extended break. This is a full work week for almost everyone. I definitely feel for the folks who had planned on one thing since the schedule came out only to have the rug ripped out 28 days prior. I understand the NFL wanting to put the best TV product out there, but as poin said, really bad look for the league.

College football has been doing this for years, one of my major gripes.
    "Rrrrring, ticket office."
"Hi, I'm interested in buying tickets for the next game."
"Great, I can help you with that."
    "When is the game?"
"Our games are on Saturdays, but that one might be on Friday."
"OK, what time is the game?"
"Our games are at 12:30, but that one might be at 1, or 4:30 or 8 p.m."
"OK, I think I'll just watch it on TV? What channel is it on?"
"Our games are on CBS, but that one might be on NBC, or ABC, or Fox, or ESPN ......"

The Thursday flex is beyond dumb. The late weekend flexes are close. It is impossible to plan the end of the year if you have tickets. And to a lesser extent if you even want to watch -- first world problems, but on the 28th the Broncos play at 2:30 now, CSU is in its first bowl game in seven years, also at 2:30, and I have CSU basketball tickets for a game against New Mexico that was at 2, but they moved to 1.

I had seen people questioning why the Broncos agreed to flex the Thursday game, I think at least for those both teams have to agree to do it, and it says in that Athletic story that it was to gain the competitive rest advantage against the Bengals. So I guess that is something, even if it is all still dumb.

And the NFL refusing comment is typical NFL bullshit.

But the Broncos do and I know a handful of people here who had monthslong plans to go out for the game are pissed off.

That at least was a TBA from the beginning and would be a Saturday or Sunday situation. Somewhat doable. But moving from Sunday to Thursday is, as you said, dumb. It really screws the fans who plan this out.

Also, only the Broncos had veto power over it because it would be their second road Thursday game. Chargers did not have veto power.

No, it implies it. You infer it.
