Finally. Was so dumb that in every other sport the Ivy competed for national titles but couldn’t in football. Excited to see my Columbia Lions knock off the Dakota schools (or lose 55-6 but still).

Another automatic berth in the FCS playoffs. That fourth CAA team isn't getting in anymore.

Good for the Ivys. There have been some years Harvard, Yale or Dartmouth would have won a few playoff games.

I've seen a couple of fools say Ashton Jeanty's season is comparable to Barry Sanders' 1988 season. No it's not.

Sanders averaged 238.9 yards per game (2,628) and scored 37 TDs in 11 games (bowl stats are not included or it would be 2,850 yards and 42 TDs). Jeanty averages 192 yards per game and has 29 TDs in 13 games. Sanders averaged 7.6 yards per carry and rushed for at least 300 yards four times.

If Jeanty gets the record, it should come with an asterisk. He will have had at least 3 more games than Sanders.

I enjoy Boise State and Ashton Jeanty and he's had a remarkable season, but just stop it with these bogus records. I don't want to hear how Jeanty broke the greatest college rushing season ever.

Scout and Rivals have been intentionally—and laudably — stingy with ***** ratings, equating them to projected first-round NFL draft level. So I wonder if this super duper status means top of the first round or if they’re increasing the number of ***** prospects. Those distinctions are apparently valuable these days. (To wit, the ***** WR who successfully demanded the package of goodies from Texas Tech and delivered nine catches before hitting the road to ATM.)

Agreed on the stat standards and totals. Jeanty’s year has not been better than Sanders’ 1988, but the yards per carry numbers are comparable. Jeanty is at 7.3 yards per carry. There is nothing like watching Barry Sanders.

I don’t like tying the 5-star rating to projected NFL draft status because you inevitably get too many quarterbacks and not enough running backs or guards. And in general, it is possible to be one of the 32 best players in your college cohort and not have that translate to what the NFL values.

Call me old fashioned, but I liked the idea that student athletes shouldn’t miss more class than necessary and should be able to study for their finals. And I’m not just saying that because I made a ton of cash tutoring for Cornell Athletics. Same reason that I like that the hoops games are almost all on Friday and Saturday (and I’m very much against the hoops 4 team tournament).

Didn't they change the rules a few years back to include bowl stats?

Football players probably miss less class than any other athletes. Generally, the fly out Friday, play Saturday and come home afterward. That's true even for the FCS playoffs. I'd expect Ivy football players miss very little class time because they can easily bus to all venues.

And let's not kid ourselves. Many in-season athletes are shunted into online classes so coaches and administrators can justify saying they're not really missing any "class time," while not admitting they are being cheated out of a superior collegiate experience.
