I don’t blame Dickert one bit. He and his staff are doing the dirty work — bringing under-recruited players to Pullman, developing and improving them, then watching other Power 4 programs get all the rewards.

    If you can’t beat-’em, join-’em.

Absolutely sucks for fans of Washington State, Oregon State or other football teams who can’t generate the large NIL slush funds of the bigger football factories, though.

When you get hired by a school with Situation X - and then suddenly the job isn't Situation X anymore, yes - no complaints. Nobody would expect an accountant to stay on if he was suddenly asked to dig ditches and clean the bathrooms.

He probably takes this job even if WSU was in an intact Pac-12. Now it's a no-brainer.

Visited Wake as a high school junior, interviewed with the admissions department, took the campus tour ... great school, pretty campus, but just too far away from the 716. I ended up at a better (for me) place.

Oregon State RB coach Thomas Ford hired as the new head coach at Idaho. Should have no problem finding a head coach-worthy house in the Pullman-Moscow region ...

Jake Dickert was a good coach in two bad situations at Washington State

If Wazzu got flattened by the realignment steamroller then Wake Forest is about a step and a half ahead of it. He isn’t making this jump expecting to become a lifer in Winston-Salem.

    Yeah, but it's a P4 paycheck until it isn't.

Maybe he got snubbed by Belichick at some coaching clinic and has jumped at the chance for revenge.

But a solid 4-5 years, up until the next round of realignment, sets him up to survive the next round of cuts someplace. And even in the next round of realignment, Wake will be in a better position than UL Monroe or ODU, for example.
