DanielSimpsonDay being third in likes while only having 11,366 posts is some remarkable stuff.

I know I rarely ever post in here. But I visit every day even though I am 11 years removed from the business. I always tell people I miss the art of journalism and the friendships I made in the newsrooms, but the business side of journalism I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Though this board may not be as vibrant as it used to be and some key characters are long gone, I appreciate this community. It reminds me of the kinship of my last newsroom, and yes, y'all break news super fast on here I love the politics and economy threads because I learn so much from them. So, thanks for making me smarter, laugh a lot, and wish I was retired.

Also, since I took a short break from this board, I missed the great split and why so many people left. Maybe around 2013ish? Can anyone quickly share what happened? Is there really another board out there?

There is another board but it’s pointless. I peek in from time to time.

It’s mainly the chief trump troll who got banned from here endlessly performing his tired act for about three other people.

I can’t imagine a bigger waste of time.

That board skews more but not entirely right and toward shit-posting, and at the time, there was more moderating of content here. IIRC, people got frustrated enough to leave for an alternative. I honestly don't remember if there was One Great Moment that caused it to happen, but I was less of a daily user in that time frame between being busier at work and being unable to keep up with how much more people posted. Looking at my inbox, I think the new board started in the 2018 range, or at least that's when I got an invite. (I don't think I have an account over there - not for any moral stand reason, but more because I don't really have the bandwidth to look at another message board.)

At this point, this board is fairly low activity, between the exodus of people from the business and just aging in general. There's essentially one daily topic (the politics thread) that is guaranteed to get multiple pages worth of posts, and that's mostly because it's a catch-all topic. It is just busy and functional enough to keep in the rotation.

I was far more prolific here when I was in the business, especially working late desk/phoner shifts. But as others have said, it's nice to still have a little connection to some old journalism friends, and the way news is posted here has allowed me to really cut down on my social media. My X account finally went poof for good on Dec. 5, but someone here usually posts anything breaking news/noteworthy from the forum.

Yeah, same tired act. Post the most batshit, stupid tweets and then claim they’re all “the left.”

He and Alma must’ve studied at the same School of Shitposting.

There were actually a couple of splits. There was one many years ago where a few people left, started their own board and only invited a few people (I, not among them). After a short while, they made that board private and I forgot about it.

There was the second split around 2018 or so, and I actually joined that one while staying here too. I got tired of posting on two boards, and stayed with this one. Haven’t been to the other one in a while.

And then … there was (is?) one board that, when it was public, was one guy who was the sole poster on the site and posting about things going on here. It eventually became private. I guess where there’s a will …

Ha, I am third in likes...but DSD and Maumann are right up there, with way fewer posts. Kudos. Always an honor to get a like from them.
