Even though this isn't a prior-restraint situation, this isn't a free press. If the media feel so cowered that they won't do their jobs, the country has a problem.

At Trump's next presser, reporters would be wise to continually ask Trump what Musk thinks about various issues. My guess is the more Musk is reported to be involved with Trump's decisions, the sooner he will be shown the door. Really, Musk should always be referred to as "mysterious foreign national Trump advisor with ties to Putin."

The dynamics of this are interesting. Musk isn't a Steve Bannon or some faceless flunky Trump can endlessly jerk around and then show the door. This is somebody with ideas of their own and enough clout where he'll have to share the spotlight - something which he absolutely loathes.

While I know we can't wait until Jan. 20 to start looking into what the Trump administration is going to be, I am more than a little concerned that people are treating him like he's already president, and he (and Elon in his not-yet official federal department) is acting on it. I look at what's happening with the CR/potential shutdown, I read the Chris Murphy comments above, etc., and I feel like we need everyone in the media to make the disclaimer that TRUMP ISN'T PRESIDENT YET and that any deference to him and the incoming administration as the final business of this Congress takes place and, in general, in the weeks leading up to the inauguration should be called out and put down.

In the transition from Trump to Biden, Trump wouldn't give the incoming administration anything at all. Now in the transition from Biden to Trump, people are acting like Trump is president. I know he takes all of the oxygen out of the room that is the USA, but it needs to be called out. One way that would work is for Biden or Biden-Harris to be public everyday showing they're still governing and leading and remind people of what it's supposed to look like. But Biden has faded away and Harris probably doesn't want any spotlight post-election loss.

I am 100 percent sure when there's a data breech of PII or other Controlled Information because the Trump team refuses to adhere to cyber requirements, that will finally be the thing that makes the American people reconsider supporting him.

Now I wish he had won in 2020. We'd be over this shit.
