    That's damning.

Too many people had too much to lose. That's why they were OK with him running again.

Oh, one sure way to lose clout in DC is to tell your boss he or she should retire. They will either fire you and you are out of a job. Or they will take your advice and you will be out of a job. Still, I hold top Dems responsible for this. They should have pressured Biden not to run again. Told him and his people they were prepared to support Newsom or whomever - someone with serious cred and money in the primary. Put the word out to donors not to donate etc. Instead, it was another Ginsberg, Kennedy, Feinstein, vanity deal that will end up causing harm to millions of Americans because you didn't want to hurt someone's feeling and respected their long record of public service. Too bad that long record will end with a "but......"

Seven heads and 10 horns, with 10 crowns on each horn, and names that blaspheme God written on each head.

Problem was, it didn't become evident Biden needed to stand down until late June, which was too late.

Don't think it mattered though. Redneck America is still not ready for a woman President, even though numerous western democracies have had one or in some cases, several.

I suppose it was just like everyday life. You aren't going to stick your neck out unless you are dead sure a lot of your peers are behind you.

I think people knew Biden shouldn't run again. I understood the dynamics. Trump was still the GOP's guy, Biden's age wasn't as much of an issue against him as it would have been against Hailey. Team Biden felt the public would finally turn on Trump after the convictions. But they didn't. At that point it was too late to do a full on open primary. I do think if Biden bowed out gracefully, announcing in Fall of '23 he wasn't running, Harris would have won the nomination in any event. Don't know if it would have changed things much. The point stands, Biden had no business running for another term.

If they don't pass a bill until Trump is inaugurated, then for a starter the TSA isn't getting paid at the height of the holidays. Some will work for free, some will stay home. Those rescue bills for Florida and Carolinas hurricane damage won't get passed. The farm bill has been stalled so long that there are a large number of hyperextended farmers who are at risk of going belly up with storm damage and crop failures and no federal help in sight. Tons of stuff, and they can try to put it on the Dems but the Dems are not the ones who keep shutting down the government. They're really playing with fire here.

It does not help that Musk has no clue how things work in the government. Dropping a bomb two days before the vote that all the work done over the last couple of months is out the window, that really puts some people's hides on the line. Gonna be fun to watch how it goes down, if not to live through as a citizen.

It’s a bit of a revelation that all the ranting about the dangers of budget deficits and rampant spending by most GOP office holders through the years was just masturbatory horse shit.

Trump, Musk and the Republicans do not care about any of that.
