Can we all at least admit, Alabama would’ve given them a better game and would’ve made for better TV?

Just as in College Basketball, I think a 12 beats a 5. Clemson beats Texas.

Beat awful Oklahoma and they’d have gotten that chance.

    Did Goodell pay off SMU?

    They absolutely would have.

At the same time... if the debate is between a team with losses to Vanderbilt and Oklahoma versus a team whose signature win is against Duke, there are clearly too goddamn many teams in the playoff.

That's because they are dumb enough to release rankings week after week. I don't know how they will ever get out of that trap though, ESPN wants that money.

People who want fewer SEC teams in next year’s playoffs are having a very grim six quarters and counting.

I don't have to admit it, I'm going to hear that daily from today until opening day of next season.

The purpose of the playoff is not to provide good TV or close games, anymore than the basketball tournament selects its field for that reason. The idea is that qualification is earned through the regular season. There have been horrible routs in the four team playoff, and in bowl games from the very first one (Michigan 49-Stanford 0, 1902 Rose Bowl). Neutral, I suggest that when Alabama fans tell you that, whistle Boomer Sooner in response.

I find it interesting that the FCS semifinals are North Dakota State vs. South Dakota State and South Dakota vs. Montana State. Talk about conference and regional dominance.
