It wasn’t so long ago that the Big 10 couldn’t even score a point in the playoffs. Their punishment was to get a third or the teams in this year.

The first round could be spread out midweek between Wednesday and Saturday with a 10-day break to the quarterfinals. The convenient easternmost game could kick early not to overlap with TNF, which is usually a shit matchup anyway.

    I’ll chime in on this.
    Good, bad
    Right, wrong
    Just my .02
Committee had to put SMU in.
After the disaster that took place last year with Florida State, they were gonna get crucified by not putting them in. They were hoping on hope for either a Clemson blowout or an outright SMU win. It was Clemson winning that did the most damage. Is Alabama the better team over SMU? Unquestionably yes. They would destroy SMU on a neutral field, in Fort Worth, anywhere in the world. But that loss at Oklahoma, where they not only got beat, but didn’t even score a touchdown.

SMU finished with an undefeated record against it conference opponents in a P4 league, and lost its conference championship game in overtime. It's only regular-season loss was to an opponent who was ranked all season long (BYU).

I could very well be mistaken, and often am, but had the 12-team playoff had existed over the past 20 years, a team with SMU's credentials would have earned a spot in the field every single season. For the most part, the SEC and Big Ten made the qualification rules. SMU just took advantage of the rules the SEC and Big Ten made.

They couldn’t even beat Vanderbilt or bullshit ass Oklahoma. I’d put South Carolina over Alabama.

I'm far, far from a college football expert. But it seems like there's a certain segment of folks who won't be happy until any playoff only includes SEC teams.

Now……for all of my dumping on the ACC, I actually took Clemson outright today because Sark is going to dick one up at some point.
That said, the Clemson (+13.5) also had some tasty odds on it, so I actually took that as well.

Oh, I know, and I like it. It's still what college football is supposed to be.

I remember covering a game at NDSU when they were still DII.

Which of the four Dakotas plays its home games in a dome?
    That’s blasphemy.

Did some of you even watch the Penn State -SMU or see the score and go “dah they suck.”

Because I sat through 22 degree weather in a stadium with terrible internet service so I had no choice. SMU moved the ball on Penn State and had PSUs receivers contained enough that Allar forced some incompletions. Their quarterback just made the dumbest mistakes at the worst possible time.
