2024 AP Athletes of the Year

Ohtani for men, Caitlin Clark for women. Discuss.

 

Hard call in an Olympic year, but I think they got it right on both sides.

 

Hard to argue with Clark, but Sydney McLaughlin would have gotten my vote.

I'd have gone with Tadej Pogačar for the men. He crushed everyone at the Tour de France. He crushed at the Giro d'Italia. He crushed at the World Championships. He crushed at the Strade Bianche. Only third male cyclist ever to win the TDF, Giro and Worlds in the same year. But I love cycling a lot more than baseball.

 

Judge or Ohtani, hard to pick. Ohtani's team won the series, that's probably the difference.

 

Harrumph! I think they should have given it to the entire MLB!

 

I agree, but cycling is such a niche sport in the US that a U.S. based publication making that call is to be expected.
Surprised they didn’t go with Mahomes, Super Bowl, etc.

 

Amit Elor would've had my vote, but it is hard to argue with Caitlin Clark.

 

Ohtani over Judge by a mile for being the first 50-50 and winning World Series.
