Boy, "surgery" is carrying an inordinate amount of weight in that headline. He cut himself on a piece of glass on Christmas Day, went to the ER and had a few shards removed that were too deep for tweezers. Might have even required stitches. But definitely not "surgery" in the "two-hour-long wrist tendon replacement under general anesthesia" type of surgery that I first assumed it might be.

    He'll miss Hawaii. Big whoop.

Not Brandt Jobe-like devastation but when your hands made you $60 million last year it had to be a little unsettling to see them bloody with broken glass.

BTW for you old geezers out there, I’m playing best golf of my life at 61, hitting it farther (220 carry with D), more consistently than ever before. I have flushed every approach last two rounds. Only missed 4 greens Sun and hit every fairway. You can continue to improve later in life. Don’t let others tell you differently. Go get ‘em in 2025!

Heading out to buy new irons next week. Current set is a little, uh, dated? Bought 'em in 2006. Time to upgrade.

I just bought a 3-wood from a Florida thrift store for 50 cents. I'm certain it last hit a golf ball in a year starting with a 1.

Nostalgia is fun, but technology is real.

I can’t imagine putting with a bullseye putter today. (Went to in laws yesterday and picked up an 8802, no way).

When I upgraded my driver from a 2009 Cleveland Launcher to a 2020 Callaway Mavrik, I saw an immediate improvement in my game, both in terms of distance and accuracy. I've been waffling on the irons for awhile, but I have some budget for them now and want to get something a lot more forgiving for my handicap range (23-24, hoping to get it below 20 in '25). As you say, technology has improved over 18 years, time to take advantage. Buying a driver off Callaway pre-owned is one thing, but I'd actually like to swing and get a feel for the irons before purchasing. Not looking to break the bank and would be happy to look at some older year models.

The one club I haven't been able to get rid of is my 2010-era TaylorMade RBZ driver. Have had several fittings over the years with mixed results, including stumping some fitters who couldn't get me 10 more yards with their latest-and-greatest (one was very honest, saying his new driver wasn't $600 better). I know exactly how the oldie performs and, just as important, how it sounds. I know I'm giving up something on off-center hits but that hasn't swayed me yet. Though looking around is still fun.

I’ve never been the guy to buy the latest, newest; I’m too cheap. It’s like used cars to me, last years (or two) are fine to me.

I bought my PXG irons 3 yrs ago when they were about 50% off. Before that, same Mizunos for 15 yrs. Never been fitted for anything.

I did add a 5 wood (2023 model) and it’s a huge improvement over my 3 hybrid. Bigger head but I blame myself more than equipment; I simply had a bad swing off the deck and corrected it.

However that new putter?? Yeah store bought but worth it.

Enjoy the search Cosmo! It’s fun I’m sure knowing you got the $$ in pocket.
