Concerts thread: Best/Worst/Next/Last one you attended?

Not a concert, but on the trip to NYC to see my kid in a regional show on Long Island, my wife and I were able to get ridiculous 7th-row seats today to the matinee of "Gypsy," starring Audra McDonald as Rose.

I've always said I've wanted to see Audra in person, and this was my first chance.

Oh. My. God.

I mean, it's a brilliant revival in all ways, including what they did with race. But Audra was, of course, incredible. The voice is obviously out of this world and her control over it is even more immense - "Rose's Turn" brought forth a minutes-long standing ovation and audience members were weeping - but the physicality of her acting blew me away. She's athletic. It shouldn't be a surprise, but when you're that close and can see her rage and triumph tremble, it's an otherworldly experience.

It's a show that is an all-time staple of Broadway, and I got to see that woman do it. I imagine this is what people who saw Ethel Merman, Angela Lansbury and Patti LuPone play Rose felt in the moment, too. It's the best singular performance of anything anywhere I've ever seen in person.

I don't think I'll ever see any one performance better.

Slothrust is coming to a small venue in my burg on 2/7. Always a band that intrigued me, will have to go. Discovered they did a fine, weird cover of Ginuwine's Pony when listening to their discography today.

Next up: The Killers, a few weeks from now in Las Vegas. My brother-in-law is a huge fan and got the tickets, they're playing a string of shows at Caesar's Palace.

Bonus: Neither my wife nor I have ever been to Vegas. Not much of a gambler, but will be fun to look around at the beautiful people and enjoy the nice weather for a few days.

EDIT: I should add that as my wife and her sister were looking for a hotel, they found rooms were fairly expensive that week because a big convention is in town: The adult entertainment industry. Viva Las Vegas!

Was looking at Teddy Swims tix out here in Portland - $375 for LAWN seats. That was through the venue. Not sure if its already sold out, that's the secondary market or if musical acts are starting to use "dynamic pricing" to maximize revenue. Maybe the price drops down if tickets aren't moving.

There is always something going on in Vegas, you almost have to luck out for time of year and even then it probably is going to be costly. I still love Vegas for the nice hotels and food but you got to spend for it, unfortunately. It is a great place for a show too. Seen Lady Gaga, George Strait, Silk Sonic (amazing) and Pearl Jam there. Wanted to pull the trigger for Adele last time we were there (for the Pearl Jam shows), but it was a bit pricey for my blood.

We saw the Killers at a festival two years ago and they were really good. Not my total cup of tea, but I like a few of their songs a lot and they were very entertaining. Probably one of my wife's favorite acts that she has seen with me so there was that too.

We were at Caesar's one time, walking from the shopping mall toward the casino, when I saw a black guy with upswept, frost-tipped hair. "That's Don King!" I thought. He looked at me, and I looked back. Then I noticed that he was only about 5-10, while the real Don King is quite a bit taller. A fake Don King. Only in Las Vegas.
