    Certainly a logical guess, but that's not it. Hints: The state is not California. And it's before 1970.

    Ohio State and the Browns? Don't know the year.

    Correct. In 1954. Game called on TV by the great Chuck Thompson.
    Only one other convergence: in 1952 (Lions and Michigan State.)

    Not sure what I like more about this answer: the Lions and the Browns being the NFL champions, or that the team matching the Lions’ title is Michigan State rather than the Wolverines.
