That's a long flight(s) from Atlanta to Melbourne in just 72 hours. But ... he is their lead tennis voice, even if it is for the Australian.

He was obviously struggling for the last half of the set.

That's what, assuming he's going commercial, six to seven airline meals? It's 18 hours direct from San Francisco.

I understand why they sent him when the football playoff wrapped up sooner. But under this setup, he hasn’t even been around to provide insights gained from the earlier rounds. Nobody ever decided to turn on a tennis match just because Chris Fowler is on the call. And if he gets pissy about it being a contract perk, well there are plenty of other announcers available to move up a slot in the college pecking order for less than they are paying him. He doesn’t even donGamesay any more.

I bow in your direction — you are more dedicated than me. I woke up and checked the score and was shocked. Not sure anyone saw this coming.

I’m going to watch the match today, but from what I’ve read, Keys just overpowered Sabalenka.

Yep I woke up and said “Wow” too. Happy for Keys, she should’ve beaten Stephens in Open.

One less challenger to Elena Dementieva as best to never win a slam

Sigh. Dementieva was my post-Graf favorite. Brutally inexcusable French Open final loss to Myskina. Another crushing loss to Kuznetsova in the U.S. Open final three months later.

At least she won Olympic gold.

Watched the match this morning, and yes, it was terrific. Keys played her ass off and Sabalenka was awful in the first set, especially up at the net, where she hit volleys that would have looked bad in the group I play with. But she got back to her usual self in the second and the third set was great tennis and great theater.

The shots everyone will talk about were Keys’ backhand overhead that hit the line and drew Sabalenka almost into the stands to retrieve, leading to an easy putaway, and especially her winner off a tough Sabalenka service return at 5-5, 30-all in the final set. That was the moment it became apparent that not only did Keys have the game to win this thing, by God she going to finish it.

Sinner's repeat gives the AO only one men's champion who hasn't won a second in the last 20 years. Djokavic, Federer and Agassi alone have won 2/3 of the titles since '95. Serena won a third of the titles going back to '03.

That would be a good question for the trivia thread: Who is the one-time winner?
