76ers guard Ricky Council IV has two brothers - Ricky Council II and Ricky Council III - also named after their dad. All three brothers played college basketball.

So you’re saying they are all co-Councils?

Michigan State has had "normal" luck in close-ish games, and Gonzaga has had bad luck in close games and played 2 more so far, so there's a small discrepancy in their records. Gonzaga also played a significantly tougher OOC schedule according to KenPom - not sure if that factors into his overall rating, or if that's just a data column for information purposes. At least by KenPom though, right around #7 (Texas Tech) is where you get a good clumping of teams, with 7 through 14 all between 25.25 and 27.06 NetRTG.

From the lede of Lunardi's Bracketology today ...

Was covering that game for the Flagstaff paper, and holy hell, when NAU's Cory Schwab hit a corner 3 with about 30 seconds left to tie it, I thought the roof was going to come off McKale Center. It's always fun with a 15 is threatening a 2, even more fun when that 15 is from in state. It was close at halftime, and Gus Johnson and Dan Bonner were on the call. CBS sent someone to find me just before halftime so I could give them more intel in the Jacks, since I covered them all season. St. John's ended up pulling it out, but they endured the same fate that another 2 seed (Cincinnati) did in 1998 when they barely beat the Jacks, losing to a 10 seed in the second round.

Also, Lunardi has Marquette playing VCU in a 6-11 game, because, of course. Any time you can pit Shaka against the Rams, it'll be fun.

KenPom has UC-San Diego ahead of every SEC bubble team, the two-time defending national champions and ahead of the crosstown Aztecs (and every other Mountain West school). And for all that, I strongly suggest the Tritons run the table week after next or be cast down with the NIT sodomites.

Zero, and I mean zero chance two Big West teams are getting into the NCAA tournament.

He's wrong about one thing -- they weren't still the Redmen then. They had changed nicknames like five years earlier

Would there even be a beat writer to provide intel today?

No. Fairly certain they stopped traveling when I left, which also coincided with when Lee took over the paper from Pulitzer.

Davidson has to be one of the only teams in the country starting five white guys

UCLA lost at Purdue tonight. Good. That little marionette Cronin better not bitch about the travel.

Davidson has dropped off the map under McKillup Jr.
