My wife is actually at this game and just sent me this text: Player from Gardner Webb talking shit to high point Coach. Coach told him to shut the fuck up and the player said come get me you sorry fucker.
High Point up 15 at the half after finishing on a 14-4 run. I expect more of the same for the second half. Maybe GW hangs around for the first couple TV timeouts, then whoooooooooosh.
High Point pulls away for another 20-plus-point win as expected. Next up, Presbyterian/Radford over 130.5. Two games between these schools in the last few weeks produced totals in the 150s. Radford is 14-14-1 to the total but even when they go under it is a higher line and they wind up in the 130s. Presbyterian is 11-17 against the over but as mentioned two of those overs were against Radford. Plus they’ve gone 6-4 over in their last 10, with two of the unders winding up higher than this total and the other two finishing in the 120s. The Sports Prediction is a relatively sweat/free over, finishing with more than 140 points. Count on a bunch of free throws in a game still being contested in the final minutes.
From the @Batman never gamble on college hoops book comes this gem...Delaware, favored by anywhere from 5 to 6 1/2, races out to a 19-pt first-half lead against Stony Brook in a first-round CAA game and leads by 16 at the half. Stony Brook comes all the way back, ties it but loses its last hope of a comeback on a travel call down 80-76 with under three seconds left. Stony Brook doesn't foul on the inbounds and Delaware wins by four, when a couple of meaningless free throws would have given them the backdoor cover or push at most places.
Not exactly the way I envisioned it. Well on pace for the over with 4 minutes left, needing only 9 more points. A cold streak ensues, but we get to overtime tied at 65, guaranteeing the over. Might not be by much, but it’s in the bag. Thinking Hofstra game over (hi, @BYH 2: Electric Boogaloo!) but NC A&T is dreadful and might not keep up its end of the bargain. Their impotence kept the matchup last week under and A&T has trouble getting deep into the 60s. Hofstra often has the same battles, so if they both forget how to shoot …
Well that one turned into an easy win, even tho I didn’t bet it. Went with Western Carolina/Mercer under 154.5 instead, which never came close … tho they did make me sweat with the threat of OT. Fortunately someone missed a late FT late so they were playing a one-point game in the final minute or so and the overtime threat vanished like The Big Ragu.
Swore I saw High Point -6½ last night and now they're favored by 9½. They keep winning by 20, but this conference championship games scare me. I'll go with the over 140½.High Point has been over this number 16 in a row. Radford's just gotta keep up. They did a month ago, losing 78-75. Different story back in January, when HP won 76-58. (Also High Point's last game under today's total, and the three prior games were over as well.) High Point is consistent. That leaves it all up to Radford. They needed OT to get to the 140s yesterday and have been 50/50 topping this number the last month. The Sports Prediction is that each team is that High Point makes it into the 70s once again -- they've only failed to make it to this mark twice this season -- and Radford will do enough to push the total over.
If you want to roll over your Radford/High Point winnings (21 more points needed in eight minutes — jinx!), look at the unders in Fordham/Rhode Island (160.5) and Stanford/Louisville (147.5). None of the teams hit even those lofty heights often when they go over. Even when Fordham & RI went over last month, the final was 80-79. Louisville and Stanford have combined for eight unders in their last nine games.
The CAA has four games today, none with a spread laaaaarger than 3 1/2 points. So of course Drexel raced out to a 23-point halftime lead and beat Elon by 17.
