President Trump 2.0: The NEW one and only politics thread

So were a lot of places -- Walmart, Target, etc., if not all of them. There was money in it. That was a big part of the reason DEI happened anywhere, at all. And it was a large factor in why places all backed away from it so quickly and easily, too. It wasn't just because they were afraid of Trump, or because they suddenly decided to be more racist, or anything.

I've been surprised that a bigger point was not made regarding the money aspect in every DEI story that was/has been written, and how that money/credit has now been eliminated, leading, for the most part, to the elimination of specifically targeted DEI hirings/promotions in a lot of places. But it wasn't about Trump, or social shortcomings, or fairness or unfairness in companies' eyes. It was just about money/what they got for it.

I would argue that DEI was still a good thing, for the most part. It filled some voids, and brought in/promoted some quality people who were/are worth having in workplaces who might not have been given opportunities otherwise, and it equalized things in places where that might have been needed. But it was really about the monetary break/reward involved.

That didn't take long. Who could have guessed that Kash Patel would do something like this?

Trump's FBI Moves to Criminally Charge Major Climate Groups | The New Republic

The FBI is moving to criminalize groups like Habitat for Humanity for receiving grants from the Environmental Protection Agency under the Biden administration.

Citibank revealed in a court filing Wednesday that it was told to freeze the groups' bank accounts at the FBI's request. The reason? The FBI alleges that the groups are involved in "possible criminal violations," including "conspiracy to defraud the United States."

"The FBI has told Citibank that recipients of EPA climate grants are being considered as potentially liable for fraud. That is, the Trump administration wants to criminalize work on climate science and impacts," the @capitolhunters account wrote Wednesday on X. "An incoming administration not only cancels federal grants but declares recipients as criminals. All these grantees applied under government calls FOR ENVIRONMENTAL WORK, were reviewed and accepted. Trump wants to jail them."

The Appalachian Community Capital Corporation, the Coalition for Green Capital, and the DC Green Bank are just some of the nonprofits being targeted.

"This is not fraud. This is targeted harashment," @capitolhunters continued. "The idea of criminalizing community climate work wouldn't have originated at the FBI—it likely comes from EPA director Lee Zeldin, who today cut all EPA's environmental justice offices, which try to reduce pollution in poor and minority communities."

Trump is just insane -- truly insane. How even his Cabinet, and certainly Congressional Republicans, cannot be being more active in advising/stopping him is just inexplicable.

I'd certainly think that newly-reelected Senate Pubs who aren't riding the toadstool (like Rick Scott), or know better (like Rafael in Cancun or Roger Wicker), or narrow first-time winners (like McCormick in PA) might be inoculated against the orange stank. They won't have to face voters for another 6 years.

They agree with him. The see themselves as possible great authoritarian leaders after he kicks the bucket. What happens to those who go for that prize and fail doesn't seem to have registered with them.

States rights?

NC Senate pashes bill barring AG Jeff Jackson from challenging Trump's executive orders

I realize I'm asking to explain Trump Logic. I understand that. But did he really think by announcing tariffs that no other country would do to the same to the U.S.? Does he just not care? I could see him just not caring because duh, he cares about nothing.

This is stupid even asking, right?
It's not that. He just doesn't have the intellectual curiosity to think things through to a logical, yet unpleasant for him, conclusion.

Well, duh, because Opel is GM's brand in Deutschland. They sell plenty of vehicles.

Chevrolet (never "Chevy") is a brand sold in the UK. They were on #GGMU's kit for a hot minute.
GM sold Opel (and Vauxhall, its British brand that basically rebadged Opels) to the PSA Group (now Stellantis, the owner of Chrysler and its related brands) in 2017.
