Canada just takes anyone, you know. It's that easy.

That's what we used to want, anyway. Then Obama decided he had to get something passed for political reasons, so he passed what amounts to a massive, heavily regressive middle-class tax increase paid directly to private insurance companies and cementing their place in the system. And for some...

Poverty in North Dakota oil patch

Price caps wouldn't really help anything. Right now, you have 10 people who want to rent somewhere to live, and 1 place for them to live. Whoever pays the most wins, and nine people are left out. Cap the price, and you've still got nine people left out, you just have to make up some new system...

Poverty in North Dakota oil patch

The boom is going on five years old or so now. They're still waiting for that someone who will.

Agreed. That's why this market-based solution is so terrible.

I once interviewed the CEO of a smallish regional hospital, and he was adamant that the solution for rising health-care costs was to have hospitals be paid based on the results and not the treatments.

Actually, now that I think about it, weren't journalists the ones who established the court precedent that taxation used punitively is the equivalent of a ban? Something about a newspaper tax in Minnesota, I dunno, it's been forever since comm law and I'm getting old.

How is it different. The government is telling people that they *must* buy something from private companies. If the government wants to run health care, the government should run health care. That'd be a great way to solve the problem. Funneling this "tax" through corrupt corporations is the...

As a follow-up, Obama is going to take on gas prices by mandating that they be raised no more than once a month, and as a tradeoff everyone has to own a car and leave it running 24/7. That'll show those oil companies. Then he's going to tell airlines that they have to make the seats more...

Leaving starters in too long is Quade's calling card. Yeah. For the most part, it's not too bad.

Combine all that with the fact that *everyone now has to buy from them*. So they can charge whatever they want. Part of the reason they denied coverage for all those reasons in the past is so that they could keep the price competitive enough that people would still buy health insurance (and...

This won't hurt them in the slightest. This law forces every person in America to patronize these companies, whether they want to or not. This is the health insurance industry's wet dream. I understand why conservatives oppose it (anti-Obama is their brand now), but why on earth are liberals...

here's what's in store for ichiro...

I'm intrigued by the idea that you can be so bad at something that it actually works in your favor because you are taken out of the category of players who do that thing. Ichiro's power numbers are so bad for a player at his position, he apparently gets a complete pass because he only gets...
