Definitely didn't like Vajayjay's performance. He had no.. feeling behind the song. Plus, he looked like Michael Jackson and umm.. his sister combined.

Chris Sligh and Blake Lewis are still my favorites among the guys. However, I'm dropping Brandon Rogers from the list. That "Time After Time" performance was forgettable, though it did provide some good Simon sarcasm ... "I want to wish happy birthday to my mother six months in advance." ... "I love puppies."

Simon was great in burning down these attempts by the contestants to distract people from remembering how much they sucked in singing the song.

Blake has something special, but I'm not convinced that he can sing as well as some of the others, particularly the girls.

Brandon Rogers was terrible. I think the song exposed some of his weaknesses. I love that song, but it has almost no chorus. And he did it no favors by missing notes and just seeming to put no energy into it.

As for some of the others, they play to their strengths and what's comfortable a bit too much. The sorta feminine Hispanic kid has an amazing voice. But he just causes me to wince when I see his awkward dancing. My wife and I actually had a talk about this and noted that most big-time rock stars were well established as masculine figures before they came out as gay. I'm thinking of George Michael, specifically. But there are a few guys from heavier bands. Of course, there's also Boy George. I just don't think the mainstream public is going to warm to someone who seems too feminine, regardless of what that actually entails.

Along similar lines, the guy who thinks he's the next Justin Timberlake isn't that wonderful. If he ever gets out of those upbeat songs he does, he'll be terrible. If I'm wrong, I'll be the first to admit it. But he's needs to prove that he's not a one-dimensional fella who copies Timberlake's videos. I haven't seen that yet.

And then there is IJAG's girl. He has some talent, but I'm getting a little tired of him playing up his sexy-guy thing. I want to see him step away from that and really surprise us.

With all of those guys, what I'm missing is a rocker. I want someone who can rock some radiohead. And frankly, I'm not convinced that anyone can do it. But, if they can, they're going to sway a ton of voters who are waiting for that same thing. Even Sanjaya would be praised if he just did something edgier. And it doesn't have to be Radiohead. Hell, it could be White Wedding for all I care. But please give me something other than your version of Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, etc.

Mr. Lugs and I had some fights last night. He likes Sligh and hated, I mean hated Rogers. Didn't much care for Nick, either.

I'm NOT all into Sligh or Phil Stacey, and I like Rogers.

    Didn't get Chris Richardson's performance.

Still like Blake Lewis, even though I was underwhelmed by that song. He's very creative. I could see him as the Idol.

Cotter's wasn't as good as Nikko Smith's version a few seasons back. Nikko "blew that song out the box" as Randy says. But Cotter's got charisma out the butt.

  6. Like any good Democrat, I am removing my support for Sanjaya (posted after his audition, probably because he didn't totally screw up the Stevie Wonder song he did, at least then). I saw him last night in the opening and thought "Oh God, he's going to do Michael Jackson." When the best you can say about his performance is that well, at least he didn't do Michael Jackson, you're screwed.
Haven't picked another one yet. My wife voted for Richardson, who did OK. Pedro does nothing for me. If I was picking 2 to give the heave-ho, it'd be him and Sanjaya.

With things blowing out of boxes and charisma ooozing from Cotter's butt...I'm not sure I want to continue reading this thread.

The men's group is so mediocre this year that I think the judges eased up on them last night because they know they're so bad and they're trying to spin as positive as they can to save their ratings for the upcoming guys' nights. Looks to me like this is going to be a repeat of season 3 when Fantasia, Latoya and J-Hud did their diva thing--they were the best I'd seen on this show--and after Sunday night's Oscars I think I can rest my case on that argument.

Definitely a year for the women after watching last night, four or five of them just absolutely blow any of the men out of the water. Should be four guys at best and at least eight women in the top 12...maybe this mediocre group will make them change the rules for next year.

I really liked A.J., despite hating him last week. I thought Chris Richardson did NOT sound better than Jason Mraz, at all. He was so nasally.

To go: Pedro and Sanjaya. How did Sanjaya make it this far, again? Anyone?

I always vote for those I like but who are in danger of getting cut.

So I voted for A.J., Brandon, and Nick last night.

Heiny Man: When you've got a butt like Cotter's.... it's got to be nice.

I like Brandon, but he didn't do anything great last night. He's got talent, but he can't expect to win with performances like that.

Get rid of Sanjaya and Brandon...everyone else deserved to stay at least one more week (even Sundance, who I hated last week)
