No, too often what "settles it" around here is somebody demanding he be respected for "carving a niche," like Simmons cleaved the atom.

Once more -- he did not invent or give rise to the sports blogosphere.

In my mind, Cannonball Run is not dreck but Cannonball Run II most definitely is. That being said, I own and regularly watch both movies, and I readily admit my dreckedness. That still doesn't excuse the dreckedness of others, although it's funny watching them flail about because someone had the temerity to blast their favorite show.

My sister is a wonderful woman and mother and I love her dearly, but I have never had a problem describing, to her face, the dreckedness of her favorite shows, and she's a 24 addict.

Gumball Rally was much better than either.

Sorry. Death Race 2000 is the alpha and omega of cheesy cross-country racing movies. Check out David Carradine's crazy hat.

If Page 2 wins awards after Bill Simmons leaves, would that make him an example of the Ewing Theory?

So very true . . . but the handwringing apologists will never quit . . . either handwringing, or apologiziing.

    People loved the 1980s.

He picked the right decade to milk.

Simmons is a great writer at times. The more serious the subject, the better his work. Often he talks about himself and his friends way too much, which bores the shit out of me. Also the majority of his "cultural references" are either repetitive or lame. No man in their mid-thirties should watch or know that much about reality tv. He seems like a fraud as a person, as he takes shots as bloggers while forgetting where he came from.
