Found a pretty funny post from "jason whitlock" on the SOHH site:

To all the wanna be SOHH Black Panthers (Rebel, Rick, Woo, krhs x, doeboy, etc)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You people have been throwing shots at my throne lately, that jealousy has been real obvious
Talking about "Whitlock is a coon, hes a sellout, an Uncle Tom"
Negro please. What I speak is gospel, because I am a world known, first class sports journalist. What y'all speak is opinions that nobody outside of this messageboard gives a damn about.
I'm going to give you whiners a chance to change that.
Tell me what you think the articulate one should do. Damn, I'm really under yall's skin. Theres more threads on page 1 about me than there are about kobe.
I really am THAT AFRICAN AMERICAN.
I am a sportswriter DOMINATING a forum about sports.
How should I have approached the situation differently? If I tap danced around the issue like that minstrel Scoop Jackson nobody would be talking about this incident.

I put my name on the line to help you people, and this is how you repay me?

"Like I told you to diss blacks
    NO!
    Whit did that
So hopefully you wont have to go through that"

    Hey Boom?
    Why didn't you post this?

    -------------------

There seem to be two points -- not necessarily at odds -- up against each other in this thread.

    I. Pointing the finger at cultural pathology rather than examining factors that contribute to and prompt negative behavior is, at best, shortsighted. America has never truly treated lower class black problems as "we" problems but as "Them" problems, and that has created a horrific breeding ground for social ills, criminality, and general delinquency. Whitlock using the all star game, of all things, and a launching pad for such a discussion is a little weird. The fact that he seems not to care about the people he discusses as much as their ruining of the event can be construed as offensive and callous.

II. Maybe it is a "we" problem, but the simple fact is that America believes it's pathological, and is not about to invest itself in helping lower class blacks. There is a class of blacks that exists -- woefully undereducated, uncultured, lacking vision and practical goals, cut out of mainstream life and caught up in either a reactionary culture or an extreme and dangerous version of the mainstream culture -- in such a precarious, horrible, powder keg state that something needs to be done. And you can ask the Native Americans if America is going to reach back in time and apply some corrective measure to their situation. Ain't happening. So, beyond the sociological and ideological, we need some practical tough love. It ain't fair to have to "self-police," but let's get real, we have to. And its a daunting task, but we can't choose to remain silent or to condone and even defend some of the behavior Whitlock mentioned. Whitlock isn't the issue. Vegas isn't the issue. But there is a real issue here, and it's too important to overlook because you don't like the fat fvck who wrote the column.

Personally, I lean more toward the first position. I grew up in one of the worst environments in this country, and I can't stand it when people b1tch and moan about people who mainstream society left for dead. These people are always going to exist without fundamental changes to how we do things in this country. And most of them ain't gonna turn out to be polite citizens.

That said, it's not just the poor who grew up in extreme environments anymore. The low expectations, the images blacks take on as authentic (and there's plenty of blame to go around, but sh1t, it's killing blacks, so it's more crucial for blacks to address this sh1t in a country where other humans by and large are not worried (to put it mildly) about black self-love)... it's affecting blacks of every level now. I see it in my old neighborhood. I see it in my younger relatives. I saw it in college among the middle class blacks. The sh1t is scary. Not scary as in, damn, what if this dude swings on me. Scary as in, damn dude, are you serious? Is this what it has come to?

I can't see how we'll make any progress apologizing for the sins of our peers. We need tough love. But it has to come across as tough love. Not spite and disdain. And then we need others in this country to stop rationalizing the sins of their peers and fathers. But, as they say, my spirit and hope is optimistic, but my knowledge is pessimistic.

I'm going to guess Dave lost most of the audience on this board when he refererred to "the great" Scoop Jackson.

because that doesnt fit the image, che. something like this would chatter the world built on all of his misgivings and assumptions. why bother when it is so much easier to hold on to his archaic paradigms....

Exactly. It's much easier for one to attach themselves to their already pre-conceived notions on our speak rather than seek out those that counter what's outside their jaded and limited comfort zone.

If this thread title changes again, I'm pretty sure it'll earn Whitlock an unintended award.

Obviously I did not see because it was buried in all posts proclaiming Whitlock to be Uncle Tom and threads by Jiggy Higgy discussing bustin a nut in a ho or speculating whether she cleaned herself.

I do have to disagree with the tone though. I think America has viewed the problem as a "we' problem for at least as long as the Johnson Administration. I also think that as a country America is willing to help those who help themselves. Out of wedlock birthrates of 70% are not helping your image very much.

What's obvious is your already ingrained bigotry blinding you from clearly seeing what's visible too many who travel to that site.

And the Moynahan plan you speak of has little to do with the growth of out of wedlock births.

I will dispell that widely held myth later.

And please, pull up another parody and i'll post a gem posted 7 years ago on that site that would make Whitlock look like the lazy journalist he is.
